probably nothing anyone can do, but worth a shot...... My system wont boot up, (IE both hard drives are running and my processor) but I dont even get the DOS screen before windows starts up. I really dont want to pay $50 to take it in because I am flat broke! thx in advance....
This is going to be an idiotic reply...but did you check the monitor cable? If the monitor appears to be connected properly, then maybe the problem is that the monitor is dead or not working properly. As an overall check, I would unseat all of your external (keyboard, mouse, monitor) connections and plug them back in. Do you hear any beeps that are out of the ordinary? If there are motherboard problems, you will sometimes get beeps that come in some sort of order representing an error code. Hope this helps!
Nothing comes up on the screen. I hear the hard drive running (Cable for monitor is properly plugged in) but not the customary "beep" which I guess indicates the DOS startup thing is running. I swapped out my CD-ROM drive with a DVD, and replaced the floppy with a new one. I did a test run and everything worked perfectly fine, I even played a DVD movie. After putting the casing back on and starting it up again, I got nothing.... Hope its nothing serious, or I may have to pull a Holden
AHA! More info...try reseating everything that you might have bumped into on your motherboard. OR, did you happen to change the order of your IDE devices or change their settings?
I tried various IDE settings for each hard drive and even unplugged the DVD and CDRW drives. Its very possible that I did cahnge the order of my IDE devices, but I dont think I changed the settings....
I had a problem one time when adding a network card. It turned out that the slot was apparently bad. When I put it in a different slot, everything worked. When I put it back in the 'bad' slot, I had results similar to what you describe. I put it back in the good slot and everything worked well again.
Try removing all of your devices except your main hard drive and set it to master on the primary IDE channel (which is what is should be at already) and try to boot up with minimal items connects. If that works, then reconnect each thing, one at a time and see if you can pin-point where the problem lies. Hope this helps!
Along with what other people are saying, if your computer is turning on, but you arent getting video and it isnt finishing the POST, then try reseating the video card, that may do it, my video card comes unseated all the time and I have to push it back, I get pretty much the same problem you do
