My friend built me a new comp just yesterday, and everytime I start up windows, right at the desktop, i get this error message:

cle.exe- the application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000135). click on ok to terminate the application

does anyone know why I am getting this message and how I can get rid of it?

    Well, my url sucked, so...

Tell him to install the latest Microsoft .Net Framework from Microsoft's site. I'm guessing he's running an ATI card?

Something is odd with your system... hehe.

What does the error specifically say?

Comes up in a box says, as header: Run a DLL as an App, in the box it says:

Run a DLL as an App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell microsoft about this problem. We have created and error report that you can send to help us improve Run a DLL as an App. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.

then I have the option of sending the error report, to not send the error report.

That doesn't solve anything though. It's like saying "somebody's shooting bullets at me" and the solution is to close your eyes so you don't see it happening. :)

Something you have installed is crashing when the system is booting into Windows. Figure out what it is...

there's probably a startup program that's not acting right. hit "start" then in "run" type "msconfig" <enter>. click on the startup tab. do a process of elimination and check and uncheck each. they can all be deactivated and windows will start, since they're not system level apps. you might wanna also check in your "startup folder" to see if any dll's are in it.

On a related note, what do you do with your computer/what's wrong if you are getting the infamous blue screen every 10 minutes or so? Dell Inspiron 5150

Time to reload :D Could be a number of things...could be a software failure or some hardware that you have in the computer is causing the computer to continously crash. The number 1 culprit in these types of things is bad memory chips.

There's a reason for everything. Only in the worst-case scenario do I recommend a "rebuild" or a "fresh install of Windows". You have to find out what's happening, so that you don't do it again or can tell someone else not to do what you did to cause this. Otherwise, all you're doing is covering the well after a kid has fallen in, then making another well, where another kid may fall in. (How about that analogy, Dr of Dunk? My dad always says that to me after someone corrects something that could have been prevented.)

Do the same process of elimination that kyakko recommended. I am betting that there is something attempting to run a timed program "every 10 minutes or so" like you say, and tries to take over a memory location already in use by another program. Computers aren't stupid. The blue-screen of death is trying to tell you something. Listen.

to check if it's hardware (assuming you still have the original hard disk and didn't fdisk it), dell has a built in diagnostic utility that's pretty comprehensive. press F-10 on startup and run the full version. if there's a hardware error, 90 percent of the time, it'll catch it.
