Does anyone here besides me read any? I MOSTLY go with the non-superhero type, but not totally... just curious what kinds of geeks we got up in here...
When I was in Jr. High and High school I read a lot, but it really dropped off after that. My favs include: Batman Spiderman Superman (yup, the big 3) X-Men (and most of the spin offs) Spawn X-files some Star Wars any Alien or Predetor, or Alien V. Predetor old school horror comics from the 50's and 60's this may sound cruddy, but I like Magnus: Robot Fighter Lots of others I can't think of right now. I recently picked up some Hellboy comics to see if they were any good (they were).
Thanks for not leaving me hanging, man! The following are my random opinions and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Clutch or this website: Hard to go wrong with Batman, I think. He's the super mack daddy. No super powers, no gun (in his true, pure form), it's like if Bruce Lee and Sherlock Holmes had a kid it would be him... John Byrne's X-Men run was what got me into comic books again when I was in high school... I've got quite a few of those horror comics, too... there's nothing quite like them... the same goes for Magnus; I've got a weak spot for that stuff. I have found about three different versions of that one over the years, from different publishers, I think... it's one of those that keeps coming back somehow, and I bet it still will for some time, as the world gets more and more science-fictiony in real life... I like Hellboy too. Pretty amazing artwork, and the stories make it seem like he's done some research... My friend said the movie was pretty good, but I haven't seen it yet... I've got love for the others, too, but the above are MY favs on your list... and I didn't even notice your username when I said that about batman... weird...
plenty of love for archie, even more for betty and veronica (hubba)... (that WAS a long time ago... I remember this one really twisted story about when archie was a little kid and he got this turtle at a fair, and it got all big and scary...), dude, I have to ask about your name... how do you pronounce it (or do you)? My brain just kind of trips over itself after the first 8 syllables... what language is that?

I never really read comic books (couldn't afford them) till they become downloadable online. While I like it personally, I do feel bad because comic shops are closing and that makes me sad.
i have a ton of books still at my parents house. for some reason i think my favorite of all of them would be the infinity gauntlet.
I am currently reading the Spider-Man (except Ultimate) and Fantastic Four titles on the Marvel side and Superman and Superman/Batman from DC.
I was really big into comics for a few years in junior high. I loved Wolverine a whole lot, and bought a ton of X-men comics. I also really liked Spider-Man, and read all his titles faithfully from the "Maximum Carnage" arc all the way through to the "Scarlet Spider" debacle. Eugh. Batman was another fave. I was strictly into superheros for the most part, although "Milk and Cheese" was great. A couple years later I really got into Alan Moore's "Watchmen." Definitely the best "literature" comics I've ever read.

I guess I just live in such a monocultural state now (Vermont) that I've developed some regrettable tunnel vision... that, plus I don't know how many other usernames in here are actually people's names... gotta watch out what you assume, huh? Where do you DL comics? I haven't read any in ages. Mostly X- Men, Spiderman, Batman back in the day. I bought the Age of Apocalypse series at some comic auction and stopped right after that. I still read the AoA spinoff X-Man for a while but I just stopped altogether. Ya grow out of stuff.
peleincubus, I thought you were making up that title, "infinfity gauntlet", but I went and googled it and found some great reviews for it. I like Jim Starlin, the writer -- I remember some awesome Captain Marvel's he wrote... hippieloser, Watchmen (along with Dark Knight Returns) was what got me back into comics after a long time off (and I haven't stopped since then...) It did blow me away... and I checked out Milk and Cheese a few times, and just bought a collection of Evan Dorkin's stuff from his title "Dork"... it's got some good stuff in it -- I don't always know what to make of him. He's very angry, which I understand, but don't ALWAYS find funny, I guess because I'm not as angry as I used to be (when I was in college I wanted to do comics like that)... He also did a title called Instant Piano which included work by Bill Wray and Stephen deStefano, the guys who made Ren and Stimpy. wizkid83, I'd like to know more about these downloadable comics you're talking about... can you really do that? I've seen some sites that have comics on them, but nothing mainstream... I gave up x-men not too long after byrne's run, because it began to branch out into so many titles and so many storylines that I would have had to get a second job to pay for them all, which wouldn't have left me enough time to read them...

I probably would have gotten into comics if they weren't so damn expensive. Aren't they like $3-$5 for about 5 minutes of entertainment? I did, however, like Archie, X-Men, and Batman.
Sweet, AntiSonic! Thanks! Yeah, vj23k, you're right -- I think most of the ones I buy run about $3 or so... and up for any that are at all "special"... I only buy a few every month, most of the time, so most of the time it doesn't really add up to much (most of the time)... I look at them as being kind of comparable, investment-wise, to matinee movies -- sure they don't necessarily keep you entertained for 2 hours, but you can go back and re-read them for years, too... Still, it helps explain why the comics biz is usually struggling... which I think it usually is... I've been in sticker-shock over the cost of books, in general, for 15 years or so... I think it helps if you're kind of a "special" person, yourself... Something about the format of a comic does it for me. I've been reading The Cartoon Histories of the Universe (I to III), by Larry Gonick, which comprise a supposedly reasonably accurate and surprisingly detailed (also humorous and earthy) history of the world, done in a comic book format, sold as trade paperbacks. They are well-reviewed. I sucked at history in school, but I have retained more history from these books than from anything else I've ever read, though Larry McMurtry is good too, and I'm reading Undaunted Courage (about Lewis and Clark, and Jefferson) and getting into that too... still, something about the visual component helps me... And of course, like many good junkies, getting hooked while the price is still low helps, too,,,
I have a couple boxes of Marvel comics from about 1983-88. I've been meaning to eBay it for some time.
Mostly X-men, Spiderman, Secret Wars, FF, Cap America, Iron Man, Avengers, Defenders, Thor, Power Man and Iron Fist, Hulk. I was never really into DC for some reason.
I do I have been reading mostly DC titles since rebirth and I started Secret Empire and will probably read The Defenders when it starts later this summer.
