All the ones I omitted are because I haven't seen one or both, and can't evaluate such a battle.

 

Bracket A:

1)Dumb and Dumber - Haven't seen SotD, but D&D is a worthy #1 seed.

2)Spaceballs - Another slam dunk. This is my favorite Mel Brooks movie. "Merchandising, merchandising, merchandising"

14)Friday - Haven't seen either of these movies so in that case I'll go with the underdog.

4)American Pie - Well I haven't see Top Secret (yes I'm deprived), so AP wins by default.

12)Raising Arizona- Some people love Ferris Bueller with a passion. I shrug. (Shrugs)

6)Something About Mary - How the hell can Ace Ventura be a #11 seed. I can't belive they are out of the tournament this early.

10)Meet The Parents- I really like the Big Lebowski. I really do. But it's more quotable than it is side-splitting. And more humorous than it is hilarious. MTP on the other hand, had me absolutely rolling.

8)Naked Gun - Never even heard of Strange Brew.

Bracket B:

16)Blues Brothers - Haven't seen either of these movies either. I keep on seeing Caddyshack at the video store and meaning to rent it, but I always seem to push it to the side.

2)Groundhog Day - Easily the best movie in this bracket. Not necessarily the funniest, but the best.

3)Old School- Old School is overrated. That said, it still thumps Tommy Boy like Appalacian State.

4)Ghostbusters- I'm tired of commenting.

12)Wayne's World- I don't remember much about Fletch. WW wins on the strength of the Bohemian Rhapsody scene.

11)Bowfinger- Very funny and underrated movie. Steve Martin is terrific.

7)Austin Powers-International Man of Mystery- I'm glad none of the other AP movies made it. The original is still the best.

8)Animal House- I've never seen AH, so count this as an Anti-Rushmore vote. I just completely didn't get the movie. Clever doesn't automatically mean funny. And this movie wasn't half as clever as it thought it was.

Bracket C:

1)Dazed and Confused - DaC gets a #1 seed. WTF. This movie is all right, but a #1 seed. This guy'll get bumped for sure in the second round by Spinal Tap.

15)Coming to America- This bracket is ridiculous. Now Bull Durham gets a #2 seed? It's not even a comedy. It's one of those romantic comedy feel good movies. Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie but it's not THAT funny. Nobody ever said, "Remember that hilarious scene in Bull Durham."

14)Best in Show- Worst seed in the tournament. Best in Show as a double digit seed. This bracket is horrid.

13)When Harry Met Sally- Blah, blah, blah. Never saw both movies. Blah, blah, blah. Underdog.

12)Princess Bride- Tootsie, another overrated yawner. PB though is utterly quotable and absolutely hilarous.

6)Office Space- A #6 SEED! I cannot belive that Dazed and Durham grabs the top two seeds in this Regional with Office Space at #6. I'd be shocked if either this or Spinal Tap don't make it out of this bracket.

10)High Fidelity- A very tough matchup. A Christmas Story is one of my favorites, but HF just edges it out due to Catherine Zeta-Jones' bare back. Not exactly a comedic reason, but she's got to be worth some bonus points.

8)This is Spinal Tap- Another rollover. I'd expect this and Office Space to be duking it out for the Final Four berth.

Bracket D:

1)Airplane! - Arsenic and Old Lace gets a terribly unfair seed. This is easily the funniest Cary Grant movie on this list.

2)Blazing Saddles- Never been a huge fan of Blazing Saddles. It's funny but it's always in the running for funniest movies of all time, and I just don't see it.

14)Young Frankenstein- YF on the other hand is absolutely laughassoffing.

4)Producers- Only the fourth best Brooks movie in this tournament, but it's still pretty good.

12)His Girl Friday- Absolute Screwball perfection. This was back when wit and stylish dialogue dominated the industry. Sigh.

6)Philadelphia Story- Since when is the PS a funny movie. It's got the most star-studded cast of all time. And it's charming and witty and romantic. But whearas His Girl Friday leans towards comedy, the PS leans toward drama. It's also one of movies that has aged the worst. If it wasn't for the fact that this movie houses three absolute Film Titans in a fabulously penned script, it would be just another movie whose time has passed.

P.S. But it's still better than the Jerk.

7)Dr. Strangelove- Yet another bad matchup for one of my favorite movies. The Thin Man has one of the great screen teams of all time. Powell and Loy are sensational together, and it's a real shame that they have to go up against a bona-fide contender for Funniest Movie of all time in Dr Strangelove.

8)Some Like It Hot- Probably a tad overrated, but Some like it Hot is still an extremely funny movie.


I noticed that the list doesn't include any of the new Era CGI animated movies, like Shrek or Toy Story. That's a pretty big oversight. I'm sure one of those movies could make some noise in this tournament. I'm at least glad that some of the older movies got a little recognition. Although if everyone on this board was familiar with Preston Sturges, then Miracle at Morgan's Creek would be a Final Four contender.

My guess to win it all. Airplane! They've got an easy bracket (as much as I'd like to think otherwise, the older movies don't stand a chance), and that movie just has the goods.

I couldn't agree more. That is one of the greatest movies. I saw it when I was in college for the first time, and was floored. I couldn't understand why I hadn't heard it before.
