I recently switched to Comcast unfrtunatley and I'm hang problems connEcting to the Internet. I have my modem box setup and a Linksys router connected to it. Do I need to actually connect my PC to the router with an Ethernet cable to recieve a connection or is there a way to wirelessly get Internet on my pc? I have my modem/router in another room, so I cant really connect m computer to the router.
coax-> modem modem ->wirelessrouter via ethernet cable computer with wireless card should be able to get the signal that is being broadcast from the router. should do it.
if it's a laptop built in the last 3 years I'm sure it has one built in. a desktop? you would have a small antenna built in the rear in one of the expansion slots. you would also have default software that would detect wifi signal.
In my limited experience a Comcast modem and Linksys do not play well together. I had lots of trouble with having more than one computer on the internet at a time. No problems with my Netgear router.
key word here...limited Ive used nothing but Linksys for the many years I have been connecting (an entire multi-computer network) thru TW\Comcast, and those have never caused problems. Same with numerous others I have setup. Netgear and DLink on the other hand, have been nothing but problems.
Look under Control Panel-System-Device Manager-Network adapters to see if you have a wireless adapter or not. You can also give a little screen shot of that section also and have us look at it. .
I'm pretty sure I don't have a wireless adapter dor my desktop. So, can I buy one for my desktop? Which brand is the best? Thanks in advance.
