So, the 'Stros are wearing throwbacks for Flashback Friday's this season starting with the old Colt .45's uniforms from '62 - '64...sort of. Unfortunately, it's been deemed "inappropriate" to depict a handgun on a jersey so, they'll be removed. http://footer.mlblogs.com/2012/02/1...the-50th-anniversary-celebration-is-underway/ Thatnks to paul Lukas for the heads up and spot on commentary at Uni Watch Blog. http://networkedblogs.com/u5z9o It's as if they're making a concerted effort to alienate fans at this point.
Clutch can change your username from Colt45 to Colt Not .45's That doesn't change the fact that I agree, taking the revolver off is a little much.
Guarantee you it's NOT their call. They aren't hurting me by getting rid of the revolver. Come on season, ****ing start already. It's been 4 months too long!
This is MLB's call. This is also why it was insane to think that the Astros were going back to being the Colt .45's. Here was the team's response from the 2nd link in the OP
**** Bud Selig. Its not a secret what the name of the damn team was and MLB had no problem when we wore the jerseys in 1995 and 1999 so why now.
We live in a P.C. world that is gradually shying away from violence. No more Washington Bullets, Colt .45's, etc.
I heard part of the reason why the name got changes to Astros was Colt Manufacturing was going to sue. But this is still stupid and why the world sucks these days.
Can't even get mad any more. The 'Stros are going to the Junior Circuit and will employ a freaking DH. This other stuff is just tiddly winks.
We are not changing the name of the franchise we are wearing the uniforms to celebrate our team history. This is ****ed up I don't care how MLB wants to spin it. The Texas Rangers are a law enforment agency that has to resort to violence when necessary why don't you make them change the name while you are at it.
This is really really lame. I'm almost offended at the stupidity of it all, rather than the presence of a depicted gun.... For crying out loud.
Yet MLB has no problem with the Indians and Braves having team names and mascots that depict a group of americans who have been persecuted throughout US history.
what's the point of a throw back if it's not the same??? at that point it's not a throw back it's a new uniform.
They were saying on Espn radio that Crane used the whole name-change and jersey debacles to win back fan points and "show" that he's got the balls to stand up to Selig after the league change debacle. Selig gets his big huge concession and gives up a minor one to let Crane save face. Quite sinister and brilliant actually.
