this is fairly easy, and I believe Collier is gonna be a Free Agent, so hopefully we wont resign him, but I mean Malick Badiane, in my opinion would be a great 12th man, come in and get some garbage time, hopefully he will pan out, and prove he needs bigger minutes...but If we could have Collier clogging up the pine, this guy could not be any worse

If he gets zero minutes, Malick would be better served playing in Germany.

    I'm not sure about that...

He's just like a HS player coming out(playing against EG, Taylor, Yao and Cato will only help his development as compared to going back to Germany and playing against less competition...

I know he hasn't been playing ball for that long what a year or so... So keeping him playing can only benefit him but even if he gets better over in Germany, its a totally different game over here... He may be more physical over there but then come here and not be able to play against guys from the NBA...

I just think he will learn a lot more coming to Houston and getting experience in practices and with the help of asst. coaches... It worked for Jermaine O'Neal, who took about 4-5 years to really become good..

Where is Moses Malone??? If he's supposed to be the next Dream, don't you guys think he needs to learn how to play physical ball with Moses Malone...

It will matter what he shows in that summer league coming up... If he shows he can compete with the players there, I wouldn't be surprised that he stays but if he's just way behind in understanding the game then he will go back to Germany to get more experience...

What if we are enthralled with Badiane after his eye opening offseason performances? Should he get his chance? Stoudamire was described before the Draft as very athletic, but on the raw side, and that it would be a couple of years for him to develop into an NBA player. [ROY]

He already has a strong build ala Amare. He already has a bunch of post moves, and is ready to learn more (Amare has his dunk and his speed, but no real post moves.)

I say, if he plays well in the summer leagues, give him a chance behind Cato and MoTay for minutes. Maybe someone will go down with injuries (like Mo did to allow Griffin to strut his stuff) and he will be able to get himself in the rotation.

Do you realize how many players are drafted that have the "athletic but raw" label??? Stoud should be considered the exception to the rule.

That will be awe to see Malick will do everything in the paint. I'll be jumping and screaming in front of the TV set.

I think the Rockets are best served by having Badiane play a couple of seasons in Germany. If he's on the Jermaine O'Neal development program, it'll be several seasons before we see anything out of him. That means the Rockets will have to lock up salary and -- more importantly -- a roster spot for him for years. Plus, suffer the incessant criticisms from the BBS that Badiane hasn't dominated the league yet. So, they may well be forced down the road to decide to cut him before he pans out; or, during his free agency, Badiane may decide to switch to a team where he can get PT sooner. At that point, we've lost our investment in him.

But, as long as he plays in Europe, we has his NBA rights. So, if he played in Germany for the next 5 years (or whatever), we can than bring him over (if he pans out) and sign him to a stable contract with an assurance of what he brings to the table. We don't risk our investment. This path worked great for the Spurs and Ginobili.

Btw (and this may discredit everything I have to say about Badiane), I think we might want to consider re-signing Collier to a short contract if he's cheap and interested. He didn't get any PT under Rudy, but it is a whole new ball game with Van Gundy. He might find a good use for a sweet-shooting 7 footer. Not saying we should lobby for it, but be open to it.

I think we too hard on Collier
While being very easy on Nachbar
They both got about the same amount of minutes
Collier's have been stretch over 3 yrs

when he was in the game
    1. He hustled
    2. He has soft hands
    3. He runs the floor

I think he is as good as our Two Power Fowards
    If given the chance

Does this say alot about Collier. .. or our power fowards?

The only people who think this are posters here who only know about him what they read in pre-draft reports and from other posters.
I will personally be surprised if he plays 1 minute of NBA basketball any time in the next 3 years.

Where did you hear this? Everything that has been printed says he has limited offensive skills. I've not seen amything that says he has a "bunch of" post moves.
Everything that's being posted says he runs the floor and blocks shots, but offensively raw. Check this out:

Nothing here says he has a "bunch of" post moves.

He has soft hands, but that probably just goes with the rest of his body, he is big and soft...he doesnt do too much on defense either, i mean he is what he is ...

3rd string Center, I think Badiane could do that easily , sure he could go to Germany and star in the German League, or come here and get the scrub minutes Collier got, atleast its against NBA competition, i mean 3rd stringers and benchers in the NBA or head and shoulders above the German Leaguers, unless you have a Dirk, but those guys are rare...

    send Collier to Germany

He plays better position Defense than Griffen
and he is just a flat out better defender than Mo T
I think Collier is a good third string C/PF
I would have like to see him and YAo together

Collier is a poor man's Christian Laetner :D
