I've heard Collier early this summer, busy beefing up for next season. If he put in 20 lbs. of muscle, well hell, Shaq might even have more problem penetrating in the low post, not to mention that Collier on his rookie year did really good on keeping Shaq score more, regardless Collier fouled out but he kept the big man not to score much numbers on the board. Despite all the acquisition about Cato's performance, I would'nt mind to see Collier playing center. Would'nt you consider him to start at 5?
you should submit yourself in for drug testing!!!!! I would like him to come in off the bench . I would rather start Griffin at 5, with Kenny at 4, than put him out there to be killed. That's why it's important to get a Center in case you know who bust!!!!!! Cato the Fato, mommy I'm hurt !!!
I think Collier will be an adequate & possibly very good center in a year or two. We don't need a Shaq clone, just an adequate center that'll put a body on his man & not get pushed around. During the brief time that Collier played consistent minutes last year, you could see his game getting better & his confidence growing. The guy hustles & isn't afraid to mix it up with the Shaq's of the NBA. He also has something that Shaq will never have, an outside shot. The game is evolving & with the new zone defense, centers that can shoot from outside are going to be more valuable than a guy that can only bull it in from down low. Why do you think Shaq is being so vocal about his opposition to the zone defense? He knows that defenses will collapse on him & disrupt his game. Big men generally take about 2-3 years to develop, with the exception of the truely gifted players (Duncan). Even Shaq took a while before he started to improve his game. At first, he got by on his quickness & size, but as time has gone by, he's refined his game & become the most dominant big man in the game today. Don't write off Collier just yet. While I don't think he should start just yet, I'd much rather see him in there, than Cato. Cato has the better athletisism, but Collier has the better attitude. However, if Collier stays healthy & continues with the improvement in his game that he showed last year, I could see him starting by the end of the year, unless we go out & get an experienced center.
Starting Griffin at the 5 is a more horrendous idea than starting Collier at the 5. At least Collier has played in the NBA before and has the size to play the position. Eddie has neither.
I wonder what some of the pre-season review magazines would say if Collier was our starting center? Can you get a grade lower than an F-???
And you should submit yourself for a rectal exam because you obviously pulled that idea out of your a$$! If Griffin starts anywhere it will be at the 3 or the 4. I have a feeling he's going to be brought along much like KG was.
I am surprised The Cat has not appeared in this thread yet. While Collier is not likely to start, he's not a bad player. At least he has a better work ethic than someone we know that drives a rainbow colored Navigator. Cato is a pansy. Don't be surprised if he hurts himself dodging a rebound and twisting his ankle.
I don't think it's a bad idea. It very well could happen if Collier plays better coming off the bench than Cato starting. Also, like someone else said, starting EG at center would not be a good idea.
Where have some of ya'll been the last few seasons? Cato will start in about the first 10 games, then decide that he is playing too much. He'll devise a plan to get back to the bench. During a time out Cato tells himself he'll go up for a rebound and come down on with some ankle injury. Collier will prabably start for most of the season. Rudy also knows that Collier probably won't last all season. If we get Jackson(thats a big IF) , then come April our starters making a playoff run would be: 5-Jackson 4-Griffin 3-Rice 2-Cat 1-Wink
It's really not a horrible idea. We all know Cato sucks. We just imagine Collier does as well. He may actually have improved. Regardless, we should not be thought of too highly with Cato at our center. I would feel much much better if we can sign Jackson. Even if he doesnt have as good a year as last, he would give us some options and we could even move him to the 4 sometimes. On top of all of that, with our ability to get FA to like playing here after they try it out, I would be really excited if we could convince him to stay for longer when Mo gets healthy again.
What cogent analysis. When training camp comes around, the two of them, and whoever else is available, will vie for the spot. My guess will be that Collier will earn it, but Rudy will give the nod to Cato to soothe his ego, and because Collier, as a virtual rookie, would better accept the bench role. But maybe not. Collier could indeed start at the 5. I predicted last year (before we signed Mo) that he would start at the 4. He hustles and learns, and Rudy loves that. Also, his outside touch and wide body make him a good pick and roll guy at the high post. Since Kenny is best used inside, and Glen can post up as well, our needs offensively probably are best filled by Collier. The proposal is reasonable, and most of the naysayers offer no arguments to back themselved up. Based on Rudy's history of giving the nod to the veteran whenever possible, I expect cato to start at 5. But remember, we have no ide what either of these guys can do. Neither has played a full seasn for us....
Can the Rockets trade for Zach Randolph? I don't think Jason Collier can guard Ewing, or D. Robinson, or Shaq. Zach Randolph impressed many in the rookies games, scoring 39 points in one game against Eddie Griffin and the Rockets. I wish the medical exception is approved, and the Rockets acquire Marc Jackson. I also hope Rudy Tomjanovich takes a serious look at Zach Randolph. I'd trade Maurice Taylor for Zach Randolph. I like these forums, you can give an opinion, get bashed n times, but still be alive afterwards. There, I've said what I've wanted to say. Any violent reactions?
Collier is not an NBA starting center, period. He will give us 20 to 25 minutes a night maybe. I don't care how much weight/muscle he has added, he is not the answer. Look at the Western Conference elite teams and he cannot stop one 5 in the conference. Shaq, Robinson, Divac, Olowokandi ( a break even situation), Shawn Bradley (a break even situation), Let's tank the season and get a good 5 to build upon.
Cato is not an NBA starting center either. He will give us 15 to 20 minutes a night and only for half the season. To those who don't get it: it doesn't matter if Collier can guard Shaq and score on Mutombo; he just has to do a better job than Cato to earn the starting spot. And how hard is it to do a better job than Cato? Last year I defended Cato and wanted to give him a chance. Last season was his chance and he blew it. I'm done waiting. Now, I'd sooner put Collier, Griffin, or Thomas in there than him. Hell, I'll take Taylor with a torn Achilles! Put on your running shoes Jason; you don't have to run faster than the bear, you just have to run faster than Cato!
The Griz would love that. They own our first pick unless we win the lottery (#1) unless, of course, we trade for a #15 or lower to give to Memphis. The pick we got from Toronto won't do the trick, and we certainly won't get a quality center in the mid to high 20s. Let's just focus on winning -- and winning big.
Not that this would be a great pick, but, doesn't Philly still owe us a first round pick (or did my alter ego, zoomzoom, make that up)?
