I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH COLLIER AS BACKUP C

    I prefer him to Cato
Some may say they are 2 sides of a coin
CATO - Atheletic with Madd potential All Defense no fire

Collier - Non Athletic not as much potential good Offense suspect defense BUT HE AT LEAST TRIES!!

    Rocket River
Keep Collier. . . Eject Cato

I was afraid when I opened this thread that the question was which one should be our starting center. Dear lord, please make the answer neither!

Both have potential to make it as a backup. Since Collier is more likely to live up to that potential, I'd agree that he's a better option. But since Cato's getting the big money and is nearly impossible to trade, I'd imagine he will continue to get playing time. At least he's blocking some shots now, so maybe he's not entirely worthless.

If Hakeem Olajuwon, retires Kelvin Cato would be the starting center while Jason Collier would be his backup. Cato is one of the NBA's best shot-blockers, a good defender and he is athletic. Cato is vital to this team's future. Collier, also vital to this team, can score, rebound, block shots and defend. Collier's outside shooting brings the opposing center oustide which makes it easier for Cuttino Mobley, Steve Francis and Shandon Anderson to drive to the hoop.

Please shoot me in the head. I hope I never see the day that Cato or Collier become vital to this team. The livelihood of our team, for now, is in the backcourt(Steve and Cuttino). Granted, any decent play by Cato or Collier will be welcomed because a contributing big man is definitely what we're lacking.

I will have Collier over Cato any time. Even a Collier on the injured list is probably better than Cato in the lineup. High paid lazy guys like Cato spoil team Chemistry, makes hardworking guys unhappy. That is human nature.

    The interview
Cato seemed to intimate that he was RUSHED
    back early from his injury.
How long was he out again?

It is surprising to me the number of you who have given up on Collier so quickly. He is a rookie. He has been injured. He's played very few minutes.

Now Cato on the other hand... well, he has been injured.

Collier was on a little roll there for a while, prior to get ting hurt. He put a few games together where he was averaging about 8 ppg and 5 rpg. Then he gets hurt.

Cato had decent backup numbers last year...as a starter!

Collier is bigger (taller and wider) - he can be taught better defense...and he is willing to learn. He would match up better against a Shaq-type center (with seasoning) for the size reason.

Collier can shoot...Cato can, uh, dunk (but only if the ball is gently laid into his butterfingers).

Cato can block shots like crazy...once or twice a year. Collier could "accidentally" block a shot every other game or so.

Collier is a better rebounder than Cato (just based on observation and what he has done with the time given).

Finally, Cato can block...but does he have great defense? He always seems to not do anything until he thinks he can block. No pre-shot defense with his own man or with general interior defense, "help" d, etc...

    Collier over Cato for backup.

good jumping ability THAT IS IT
He doesn't position that well to me
and he is not get on rotating to help.
