http://uk.reuters.com/article/lifestyleMolt/idUKTRE4B40XV20081205 What do you guys think? Its similar, but I don't know if its enough for plagiarism. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1ofFw9DKu_I&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1ofFw9DKu_I&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I don't know it does sound similar but who knows... Coldplay gets a bad rap, I don't know why but it seems like I'm the only one in this world who likes them. Everyone just keeps bashing them.
It is the same song. They are totally busted. At least on the positive side Joe finally made a hit song!
pretty bad, but not as bad as some of the other ones that have gotten away with it.. so i don't think anything will come of this
the riffs sounds very cookie cutter. it makes me think i've heard it before. pehaps there's an 80s song with the same sound?
the first one that comes to mind was a jessica simpson song that ripped off madonna a few years ago. yeah, mock me... links go around to everyone dammit! hang on, looking for it.. well here's a link http://www.tmz.com/2006/06/23/jessica-takes-a-holiday/
i just have a hard time buying that coldplay was listening to a joe satriani song at all...let alone plagiarizing it. i haven't compared the two, however, but isn't it conceivable they are both original and just came out similar? and, if this is the case, then would joe still win the case given there is no real proof that coldplay plagiarized it? oh...well...this sounds similar...must be plagiarism. it would have to be conclusive...wouldn't it? coincidentally, i was watching some of a joe satriani concert on hdnet the other week. he's good but i just don't like the material he comes up with. what is the most popular thing he ever did? surfing with an alien? even though he shreds, i just wasn't feeling it or caring for it. i was also watching eric johnson's show the other night on the same channel. i prefer him over joe. sorry joe.
Joe Satriani sounds like Santana, maybe Santana should sue him.. Smells like a PR grab to me, didn't we have a thread like this when the CD first came out with someone else saying the same thing about this song?
Anyone that doesn't think those songs sound incredibly similar and almost exactly the same must be deaf.
A local radio show laid both tracks over one another yesterday. The Coldplay song isn't "similar" or "close" or "almost". It is EXACTLY...THE...SAME...SONG. Mr. Paltrow better find his checkbook.
I feel the opposite. I feel like everyone loves them but me... I think theyre pretty similar, but not like Mary Jane (Tom Petty) and Dani California (RHCP) similar.
On Youtube (sorry I don't have the link), someone mixed the two tracks together, and they could not be playing the same song more if they were on the same stage together. I mean it is not even a *variation*, it is, as a previous poster said, EXACTLY THE SAME. Now I don't give a rat's behind about either one, but this Coldplay bunch is going to get nailed, no doubt about it. The thing that will be interesting to watch is that Coldplay is supposed to the anointed group for all the awards this year. Talk about black eye on that whole industry.. as if they needed any more
i wonder if satriani will get the grammy if coldpay wins it, since the song is nominated for song of the year.
They sound similar, but nothing will come out of this. Stuff like this dates back to when music was invented. It happens all the time, but Coldplay has been known to "copy" some features from songs before, but they credited the song and most likely paid royalties.
Its kind of funny in regards to Coldplay's popularity in the US. They are much more popular here in the US than in Britain and abroad. In UK, bands like Kings of Leon are much more popular than in the US. They are one of the biggest bands in the UK, much more so than Coldplay.
This is slightly off topic, but I often wonder how much less rap/hip-hop music there would be if there was no such thing as sampling.
