since when was sam cassell a coach? and the Suns/Mavs openings aren't confirmed yet...even if the Mavs were open wouldn't Avery Johnson be considered a top coach ???
since he's been saying for years that when he retires he's gonna go into coaching. with his contract up after this season, he might choose to retire and make himself available for a coaching possition this summer. i put and asterisk before his name which indicates that we don't know his availablity. maybe he will give it one more shot with the celtics after this season, maybe not. the mavs and suns are all but confirmed to have parted ways with thier respective coaches, and avery is definitely considered a top coach as indicated by his #2 possition on my list.
Elie has more of a chance of coaching next year than Cassell. What happened to Paul Westphal? He completely done as a head coach?
Avery is not a top coach, hell, he is not even a good coach He is just a lucky coach who already had a playoff team dropped into his lap. Mention any of his top players that he improved or anything PUT Avery with a young team and see how much good he can do, match up Avery in ATL or Phila and see how good he really is. The way you can see how good Avery really is that he is out coached EVERYTIME it really counts, and David West was right when he said Avery was not a good coach and they were not worried about him making any major adjustments to the dallas team before last night's game
thanks for the suggestions. i've added them to the list. TOP AVAILABLE COACHES: 1. Johnson 2. JVG 3. Carlisle 4. Silas 5. Dell Harris 6. Fratello 7. Thibodeau 8. Westphal 9. Dwane Casey 10. Musselman 11. Vincent 12. Ellie 13. Brian Shaw 14. Mark Jackson *Nelson *Karl *Sam Smith *Sam Cassell *denotes unknown availability TOP AVAILABLE JOBS: 1. Mavs 2. Bulls 3. Knicks *Nuggets *Warriors *Raptors *denotes possible opening after some confusion yesterday about the suns and mavs, the dust has settled. avery is definitely out, and d'antoni is still technicaly in. so d'antoni and the suns job are removed from the list for now. also, close to joining the list may be pj. carlesemo after only one year with the sonics. url -http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/basketball/361343_carlesimo01.html?source=rss. next to interview for the bulls coaching job may be avery. also on paxon's wish list (reportedly) is Tom Thib. so good call by OrangeRowdy95 to request him on the list. url- http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...antoni-chicago-bulls,0,179266.story?track=rss sorry about having to use the url rather than a link. my comp got very weird about not letting me use the hyperlink function of the bbs...
time to update the lists of available jobs and coaches. JVG officially takes himself out of the running for any jobs in '08-'09. that takes a lot of... well something, because the suns and mavs jobs are two of the best you'll ever get. speaking of the mavs, looks like they found their man: http://www.nypost.com/seven/05032008/sports/knicks/sources__mavs_to_hire_carlisle_109252.htm not surprising, that the #1 job on the market goes to the #1 coach on the market (who want just fired by that team). now it is peter vecsey, and we all know his track record, but i believe i saw something about this last night on sportscenter as well. TOP AVAILABLE COACHES: Spoiler 1. Johnson 2. Silas 3. Dell Harris 4. Fratello 5. Thibodeau 6. Westphal 7. Dwane Casey 8. Musselman 9. Vincent 10. Ellie 11. Brian Shaw 12. Mark Jackson *Nelson *Karl *Sam Smith *Sam Cassell *denotes unknown availability TOP AVAILABLE JOBS: Spoiler 1. Bulls 2. Knicks *Nuggets *Warriors *Raptors *denotes possible opening so the bulls are left without their #1 option (carlisle) and avery is supposed to interview soon. of course, the bulls and knicks will probably wait to see what happens in phoenix before making a move.
by the way, does anyone else get the feeling that the mavs swooped in on carlisle in order to screw the suns? by taking the bulls and knicks #1 option, avery is sure to land in one of those spots... who is available after that? no one worth of replacing d'antoni. the mavs may have just forced the suns to stick with mike weather they like it or not, and if he leaves for the bulls or knicks, they're completely screwed.
gonna bump this just to keep up with the news. looks like D'antoni is interested in the Bulls job. Paxon wants to interview Avery before making a decision. url - http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-06-bulls-chicagomay06,0,1279688.story my bet is that the Bulls go with D'Antoni, and Avery ends up in NY... what would the suns do then?
