This is what makes Bush's failure to commit the necessary troops on the ground to capture or kill Bin Laden at Tora Bora all the more galling. Somehow, going after Bin Laden immediately after 9/11, when we knew where he was, didn't justify deploying tens of thousands of troops, but attacking Iraq justified deploying over 100,000. This is so absurd it is almost beyond belief.
I would guess that having bin Laden around to identify confederates and methods and resources was of more value. We didn't throw all of our resources in WWII into killing Hitler or Hirohito or Mussolllini. This is war not crime.

Actually it isn't war and it is crime/law enforcement. The "War on Terror" is a more overt "War on Drugs" because there is no one nation (or coalition of nations) to topple and because there is no real ending point for victory. At home the war on terror is a law enforce initiative to be sure. Abroad, as I said, it is simply more overt because instead of sending in special ops to take out drug targets we sent our military to break terror cells and attempt to bring in "dead or alive" A-Q leaders. If you really think that this is a "hot war" then you have no idea what that means and you have no concept of military history. This war will and can never be won and will only end when some new administration in the future makes an arbitrary declaration of victory and future preparedness, but terrorism can be limited/reduced due to law enforcement.

We're fighting a war on several fronts and the white house is wasting time knocking on the last president from a term and a half ago. Yeah, that's professional. I'm so sick of this juvenile administration and the sheep that follow them blindly.
You miss the point because all you have in mind is ridicule. It is revenge to be so focused on killing bin Laden. Revenge is not very military. They were prosecuting a war against a loose and fluid coatlition of non-uniformed combatants. Don't expect normal. It's called espionage, duh. Bin Laden is the one they were all communicating with. It was his organization, remember. I believe they kept some pressureon him to keep the lines of communication up between OBL and his loonies. That is called chatter. Our military uses it against the enemy.
Deafeating the Countries is not the same as killing the Leader. That is exactly what I was saying to those who would only be satisfied with OBL on a stick.
