If Senators like Kennedy have their way, China will own tomorrow's energy, and the US will look back with great regret.

However, the most significant drawback of the technology is the energy required, reports The Washington Post. Despite carbon dioxide's effect on climate change, the greenhouse gas only makes up 0.04 percent of ambient air, making its extraction very energy intensive and challenging. The entire capture process would be futile if it required energy from greenhouse gases to operate. Fervo Energy, a company based in Houston, Texas is hoping to harvest geothermal energy from Earth's crust. Drilling just one to two miles below the earth's crust can provide access to temperatures over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit where water can be pumped and converted to steam-powered electricity, the Post continues. "You have to have your energy from a carbon-free source," said Timothy Latimer, the CEO of Fervo Energy. "Geothermal is a great match." Geothermal plants can both produce electricity and be used to capture carbon because electricity production always leaves residual heat at approximately 212 degrees, ideal for capturing carbon. "It's a totally unexplored place," Latimer said. "What would you do differently in the design of a geothermal power plant if you knew you were pairing it with a direct air capture facility?" Scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have emphasized how carbon capture will be needed to meet climate coals, predicting that ten gigatons per year of carbon need to be removed per year through 2050, and even more after. "We are not waiting for the year 2100. We are not waiting for the year 2050," said Philip Jakpor, director of programs nonprofit Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa. "We believe the time for action should be now."
Just dropping in to remind everyone that we are not prepared for what has already happened and you need to seriously think about what's coming. If you have a family or want a family and you aren't building a generational plan, what are you doing? Identify the brittle institutions, economics, and communities. Pick a good spot (or spots if you're wealthy enough), fortify it (not in a prepper sense, but in a sustainable sense), and hope the spot you picked is good enough for your progeny to live well enough. The decisions people make in the next 10-15 years will determine winners and losers for generations.
Certainly there are some big problems that we aren’t fully prepared for but I don’t think we need to quite go there yet. I also think as humans it’s our best chance of survival isnt living in a fortified compound but in societies. While yes you can set up a system to live off of the grid with your own water and power and even growing your own food. As a small Isolated group of humans though you’re still vulnerable to medical emergencies and to if things break down how will you replace parts. Everyone should prepare to survive for short terms in disasters but for long term survival we need to do things like building better infrastructure and strengthening communities.

Is this real? I don't have it before iOS 16.3.1. In any case, it would be peak hypocrisy, given how Apple relies on cuddling up to the CCP for its business.
I highly doubt that’s real. Electricity produced from green sources isn’t different than non green sources. It’s not like it’s a different voltage. The only way they would work is if the utilities were working with Apple to embed some signal in their electrical transmission to indicate it was produced from a green source. I don’t see any incentive for them to do that.
It's real and it's smart. Why be dumb when smart is available? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213323 Use Clean Energy Charging on your iPhone With iOS 16.1, your iPhone can try to reduce your carbon footprint by selectively charging when lower carbon-emission electricity is available. Learn about Clean Energy Charging When Clean Energy Charging is enabled and you connect your iPhone to a charger, your iPhone gets a forecast of the carbon emissions in your local energy grid and uses it to charge your iPhone during times of cleaner energy production. Clean Energy Charging is available only in the United States and is on by default when you set up your iPhone or after you update to iOS 16.1. To turn off the feature, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and turn off Clean Energy Charging. Some settings need to be turned on Clean Energy Charging works together with Optimized Battery Charging to learn your charging habits. Clean Energy Charging engages only where you spend the most time and regularly charge your iPhone for long periods of time, such as your home and place of work. The feature doesn't engage if your charging habits are variable or you're in a new location, such as when you travel. Because of this and to get the carbon-emission forecast for your area, some location settings must be turned on for Clean Energy Charging to activate. Your iPhone doesn't send any of the location information that it uses for this feature to Apple.
It doesn’t say how it gets that info. I have an iPhone and it does use optimized charging. It seems to charge fine most of the time. This appears to be more of a gimmick than something that would actually throttle charging. For that matter it charges well in my car which is an internal combustion engine
(2007 so outdated but still) Nice illustration of why we should be thinking of tomorrow energy not as a political issue but as an investment. Even if the issue of climate change is disregarded, persisting in the use of fossil fuels would still be a foolish and imprudent choice.
