Just heard on Foxsports regional sports report that Cleveland and John Lucas were the front runners for Hakeem's services. What's up with this? Do they have cap space or will we need to do a sign and trade? [IMG]

It makes no sense, but Dream going to Cleveland would be the most beneficial to us. They are loaded with big men, but could use someone like Dream to tutor Diop. I'd love to pick up Mihm in a sign and trade for Dream, but we would need more than him to compensate for Dream's salary. Does Cleveland have any contracts expiring after this year?

I agree Cat. I can't find anywhere that would be conclusive, but I thought that Cleveland loaded up on deals last summer that would allow contracts to end after next year so that they wouldn't have to pay the luxury tax. I could be wrong though.

I doubt they'd give up Mihm for Dream.

The Cavs have 3 contracts just under $4M which are qualifying offers next summer - Doleac, Harpring & Tractor Traylor. Cedric Henderson expires after 2001-2002.

Since the Cavs are just under the cap, my guess is an S&T for Chris Gatling is their starting offer.

Sounds like someone pulled a story out of their ass to me. In an S&T scenario I would prefer Illgauskas, the risk of him being hurt is worth his talent.

How did Chris Mihm work out for Cleveland? I'm assuming that if they want Dream it might be to train Mihm. Hakeem would be better off taking the Rockets offer. But if he did go to Cleveland, hopefully the Rocks could get Gatling and Doleac from them

I hope Dream doesn't get overwhelmed by all this attention. I mean, with all of these suitors, he might forget where his summer houses are [IMG]

Cleveland, no chance. NY, no chance. Indiana, no chance. All remotely possible, but... It's still Toronto or Houston, IMHO.

I dont know about Ilgauskas. I wouldnt trade for him unless he comes with a few more spare feet or ankles or whatever it is that keeps him playing about 5 games a year..

I'd like Mihm, though I didnt really get a chance to see how he was developing. I'd take a chance on him though if we had the chance to get him. With so many big men in Cleveland, it might make sense, like The Cat said, to have a wiley verteran like Hakeem around to tutor Diop. Never really considered Cleveland, but it is intriguing.

I agree Valio!. To bad there aren't any Cavalier fans around here, I would love to ask them how Mihm worked out and if they are giving up on him or trying to get experience, or trying to replace him or what.

It couldn't be Gatling because he JUST signed with Cleveland. Isn't there a mandatory waiting period after signing a player? I thought sign and trades had to happen within 48 hours of the deal going down. Could be wrong.

Jeff--Where did you hear that Gatling re-signed?

Also, NO WAY the Rockets take on Ilgauskas. He's a foot injury waiting to happen. But worse . . . HE MAKES THE FREAKING MAX!!! Cleveland signed him to the max a couple of years ago after his break-through season. He's played in a handful of games since then. No way ANYONE touches that guy for the price they'd have to pay for him.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW FOR SURE ABOUT CLEVELANDS CAP SPACE?

ESPN message boards, for Cleveland, has local people reporting seeing FOX Ohio confirming that Cleveland is the Front Runner. The posters stated it was probably because Cleveland has so much cap space to spend. Is that true?

Is FEAGAN setting us up, with either take Hakeem at any price, or loose him with no S&T????? He probably knows that Hakeem will look bad, if he signs elsewhere for around the same money.

According to the Monroe article, they can offer Hakeem around $5.5 million per year and still stay under the cap.

They want him to play with and against Diop.

Jeff, you are correct. If Gattling has re-signed with the Cavs, he is off limits for 3 months from that date or Decemeber 15th (whichever is first).

However, I can find no mention of Gattling's signing on the Cavs webpage, RealGM or nba.com. Maybe it's late, I'm tired and I missed it!

In an interview with John Lucas I heard that he was very happy with Mihm and that he believed he was better suited to play the 4 instead of the 5. I don't know if Lucas would part with him for Dream or that Mihm would really fill our needs at center.

Well by Thursday we should know how honorable Hakeem is? will he ditch the Rockets (& Houston) with no S&T, we he sign elsewhere for the same amount of money? or will he settle on the 2 year offer on the table from the Rockets? Should be a wild ride this week!!!!

I honestly think that Les is going to call Hakeems bluff!! he might offer another million or so, but no much more!! He has to place his foot down at some point, or Feagan will take him to the bank!!

You know, my bad. I remember seeing a story about Gatling and how he had switched teams a bunch of times but I guess he hasn't signed anywhere.
