I don't know what the possible range of punishments is, but I hope she gets serious jail time.

It doesn't matter how much you think the husband deserved it, you can't justify murder.

Second, as Isabel pointed out, I think the fact that the daughter was in the car is a HUGE deal. Think about it - the daughter was riding in the instrument of death that killed her Dad. She felt the bumps as the car repeatedly (allegedly) ran over her Dad. How will the daughter ever forget it - she will be traumatized for life. It would have been less despicable, in my mind, if Clara Harris had stabbed her husband a hundred times with a butcher knife. Just leave the daughter out of it.

Lastly, Clara Harris lied like a dog on the witness stand. I guess she was just trying to protect herself, but she would have been better off not testifying than perjuring herself. Her saying it was an accident, that she doesn't remember anything after she hit her husband, those contentions just show disrespect for the jury. If I am on the jury, I am more sympathetic if she doesn't lie to me.

    Lock her up.

According to the Chron, the judge has instructed the jury that they can now convict Clara Harris of "something less than murder".

This means the jury will probably come back with a guilty verdict on reckless driving later today.

Clara Harris is guilty of murder and "playa hatin." I guarantee if she was some poor minority woman from the hood, she'd get life in prison, or the death penalty. I will be pissed if she gets off with manslaughter. Not to mention, I'd be scared to ever cheat on my wife (when I do get married someday), since all she'd get is a few years for running me over.

Oh brother......but because she's a middle to upper middle class minority woman, she gets off?

Jeez, Clutch should separate the Hangout from the rest of the bbs and call it bbs.racecardcity.net

No, because she's rich, like O.J. I don't think you could find anybody who would argue that rich people don't have better experience with our penial system. Its set up that way. It just happens that most minorities who get caught up in the justice system are poor.

BTW, Clara Harris isn't white, I think she's from a South American country, I forget which one.

Actually, where the statistics, show injustice in the death penalty, this may have changed but I did a term paper on this, is that if you kill a white person, you are more likely to get the death penalty if convicted, both if the convicted person is a minority or white.

Actually, Texas juries have a proud tradition of going easy on folks who killed cheating spouses. OK, "tradition" is a bit strong, but we do have a bit of a history of it that sets us apart from other states. If there is a precedent to be set, we've already set it.

Isabel and anyone else who would prefer divorce over murder: yeah, divorce would probably have been better than murder, but I can certainly empathize with the more violent route. I've sacrificed enough of myself to my marriage that a simple divorce would not be nearly sufficient recompense if I were betrayed on this magnitude.

The VAST majority of murders are same-race...whereby the the murderer and the murdered are the same race. In fact, over 90% of the people who murder blacks are also black. And over 80% of the people who murder whites are also white.

So yes, if your statistics are correct (and they are), you can argue that people who murder whites are more likely to get the death penalty. This argument (without looking at the whole picture) makes it seem like death penalty rulings favor whites.

But because the VAST majority of the people who murder whites are white themselves, and because a statistically higher number of these people will receive the death penalty, it can be argued (while looking at a broader picture) that the death penalty rulings favor minorities.

It all depends on how you want to spin it.

I always read that it went in this order re: death penalty convictions.

    Black killing white
    white killing white
    white killing black
    black killing black

    I assume she'll get this:

With the number of years closer to 2 than it is to 20.

These people seem awfully A-list for a TV movie.

    Sela Ward as Clara Harris

Lisa Hartman Black as Gail Bridges

    John Ritter as David Harris

One of the Olsen Twins as Lindsey Harris
