the form is so much better! the percentage is great! who has taught him how to shoot? that coach deserves a raise...great job chuck. now that he can shoot, he is another legit starting option for rick. love chuck's d and now his o is catching up!!
I was impressed with his shooting last night. There's still a slight jerk motion, but it's not as bad. Scola has been terrible..
scola is either hit or miss with his free throws and regular shooting. he has an awkward form where he short arms his follow through, and when he launches it it always hits the basket hard.
He worked on his game and his conditioning, and he's handling the ball a bit more this year because Adelman likes his passing ability. All of that feeds into his confidence to go ahead and draw fouls and shoot the FTs. Confidence is that main thing. If you notice, the more active he is in the offense and the more free throws (per minute) he gets, the better he's shot them: Code: Season G USG% FTA FT% 2005-06 40 12.2 3.0 .644 2006-07 78 11.9 1.9 .618 2007-08 79 8.5 0.5 .458 2008-09 71 7.9 0.8 .368 2009-10 82 10.8 1.3 .545 2010-11 14 13.1 3.8 .733
I remember Tubby Smith sat in with Bull and Bill when we were playing Minnesota a couple years ago. He was saying how he didn't understand where the hitch in his free throw motion came from. He said that Chuck was a good free throw shooter in college with a better motion in his shot. Maybe chuck just went back to his natural motion. I suspect a previous shooting coach told him to change it and that horrible hitch was the result.
Scola hasn't really been all that bad until last night but yea Chuck has improved a great deal in his overall offensive game, hats off to the Chuckwagon.
I think they mentioned Patrick Ewing helped him developed the hesitation jerk in his shooting motion and one of the two commented "but Ewing was a horrible free-throw shooter, why would take advice from him"?
If that's true, then LOL. Why the heck would Patrick tell him to incorporate a hitch in Chuck's shot? Does Ewing shoot the same way or does he just want some occasional lulz while watching our games?
I'd rather know who taught Chuck that ugly form he used to have. That form was terrible and inefficient.

I wish I could find video of Andris Biedrins shooting free throws a couple of years ago. He did this weird thing where he would spin the ball sideways and almost flip that ball up to the basket. I'm not sure he does it anymore. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen.
Its on youtube, and its bad <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bCWU6rWwe6g?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bCWU6rWwe6g?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Biedrins shot 16% from the line last year (in 25 attempts out of 29 STARTS. Just 2 games work for Kevin Martin) So far this year Biedrins is 2-9 FTS, 22.2%. Confidence in being an offensive player might be indicated in the amount of free throws attempted or the %. Besides people like Shaq, you're probably gonna be just that little more hesitant on offense if you know you're an undependable disaster at the FT line waiting to happen.
Impressive to see how the form has improved. Kind of a shame between the Chuck we hear in practice and the one we seen in the game, but any improvement is good.
ive noticed that his improved ft% has also improved his confidence on offense. he was always a good passer, but you can see him really looking for his own shot now. and not just that, but he actually is pretty good at putting a fake on his defender and getting a good shot off. smart all around player.
Yeah he's shooting coach deserves a raise and the release of an instructional shooting DVD for all ages. But a lot of respect for Hayes' determination to want to improve. How many times have we seen unnamed players:cough: shaq:cough: just come up with bogus excuses on why they can't hit the freebies. " I make them when they count" "My hands are too big." They always say, kinda true, that JVG made rookies cry and that rick A hates newbies too, but every regime loves them some chuck hayes. If only he measured 6'11.
