I think it's the other way around. Vin Diesel is a decent actor (as we see from Private Ryan and Boiler Room) but even the best actor ever couldn't look good in those other crap movies, so it's not surprising he looked like crap in those movies. But I like Diesel so I'm biased. It's really hard to tell with actors until they play several roles. I remember Matthew McCounoughey (sp way off) got rave reviews in one early movie and then has sucked in the rest.
and the studio is talking smack like this franchise is going to be on star wars level... watch out for pitch black 3 and 4 to be filmed simultaneously god help us.
Just saw the movie. I thought Vin Diesel was cool in this film, and a couple of scenes were interesting. But overall I felt that the movie mostly sucked....I found the majority of the film to be boring. I think I would have liked it more if it were rated R instead of being toned down to get a PG-13 rating. I liked Pitch Black a whole lot more than this movie. And this is one of the few times where the game is clearly better than the movie (although the game takes place in Butcher Bay, before Pitch Black, whereas the movie takes place after Pitch Black.)
I've seen a trailer and one commercial for this and I can't believe how badly they butchered a Asimov classic.
Didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as folks are making it out to be. I enjoyed the conquering army/planet destroying race storyline, and how they integrated the character of Riddick into it. If anything, this movie suffered from not telling enough backstory. It would seem to me there are novels of material behind the idea of the Necromongers, and exactly what the 'Underverse' is. Not too mention the Furion race, etc. Not too mention exactly what's going to happen with the conclusion, which is the only other big problem I had with it. (For sequels, obviously). Decent, enjoyable sci-fi/action flick.
I thought it was just me. . . I was thinking. . . maybe i need to ReRead it or something cause it HAS been a long time Rocket River sometimes. . .movies would be better. . IF THEY JUST NAMED THEM SOMETHING ELSE . . if this was not associated with Asimov . .. it might be interesting Another movie comes to CYBORG . . .once I got over the fact that the Cyborg had NOTHING really to do with the action . . it was ok [NOT GOOD .. OK]
lol... i never had one. and if i did... i was one of those critics like liked most movies and will only rarely complain about any movie... like ebert.
This movie sucks. They definately spent their budget on the action scenes, but I still regret going to see it. Just waiting for Spiderman................
If you said it sucks, are you walking with the masses or being intelligently critiqueful?...(i.e. saw the movie with inquisitive analytical thought process)... Most people don't like Sci-fi. ,...and if you don't, this movie isn't likely for you, but I am a fan of the classical sci-fi theme element such as Bladerunner, Pitch Black, X-files- the movie, Close encounters of the 3rd kind, among a few others...So, I will definitely see this since it seems to utilize themes that evoke similarity to the classics above...
Yeah, don't Riddick-ule it until you've carefully watched it. (I heard that one from King Cheetah; he sent me an email from his wireless account while he was camped out, in costume, for tickets to the first showing of Chronicles of Riddick). God I love the edit function.
