http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/basketball/4291347.html Okay, so I might not be informed of something here. The guy called Mutombo a monkey? Is that racial? I call my friends monkeys all the time, especially the ones with big ears. It says "monkey...", maybe something came after that we don't know. But Mutombo sure did look hella pissed. And that fan's shirt was hideous.
That guy was pretty stupid. Don't mess with Mt. Mutombo. He was pissed like ive never seen him before. His eyes were like damn... The cookie monster
I trust Mutumbo over any stupid fan's words. If something were to make a guy as classy as Dikember that angry, he must have done something awful. If the NBA fines Mutumbo, that is rediculous.
That would pretty much be extremely racist. It goes back to the early twentieth century when many blacks in America were considered "less" than human. I would never call a black person monkey...unless I felt like I didn't need my front teeth anymore.
Monkey is a racial slur for people of african decent. I dont think its used alot here in the states, but its commonly used in Europe against black soccer players. I remember watching a short clip about racism in europe and soccer fans would make monkey noises and throw bananas onto the field to mock the black players.
Even the Magic broadcasters totally supported Mutombo and said the fan was way out of line and Deke is one of the classiest guys you'll ever see. He is a philanthropist and great guy
The league better not fine Mutumbo. He is a respected vet, who doesn't need a youngster posterizing him in preseason or a fan calling him a...well. He doesn't need that sht. It's funny how that guy matched with his r****ded shirt.
Taken from Thierry Henry's wikipedia page: " Luis Aragonés became Spain's coach in 2004. During a training session with the national team, a Spanish TV crew caught Aragonés motivating Henry's then Arsenal teammate José Antonio Reyes saying, "Give him the ball, and then show that black little **** that you are better than him." The incident caused an uproar in the British media with calls for Aragonés to be sacked. When Spain played England in a friendly match at the Bernabéu later that year, the crowd was hostile. Whenever black English players touched the ball, large segments of the Spanish crowd began to make "monkey chants."[4][5] The Spanish football federation -- the RFEF -- eventually fined the coach €3,000.[6] After an investigation, UEFA fined the RFEF 100,000 Swiss francs and warned that future incidents would be punished more severely, from suspension from major international tournaments or the closure of Spain's home international matches to supporters. Henry and Nike started the Stand Up Speak Up campaign against football racism as a result of the incident. He was also a part of Nike's Joga Bonito campaign, Portuguese for "Play beautifully"." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thierry_henry
I would ban that fan for a year or more. If I was an Orlando fan I wouldn't want that type of fan to represent me. I don't like Orlando fans as it is, and this just makes it worse.
The sad thing is that he was hyping up the crowd and the crowd was clapping for him when he was escorted out. I can see why TMac wanted out.
Yeah... there was something like that. Cosell caught some flack for it, but he otherwise showed a lot of goodwill towards the black athletes of his time. He strongly supported Ali when he changed his name.
