The Rockets no doubt need more of a true point guard with good handles who can set the offense up so McGrady can be relieved of that burden. Duhon has as high basketball IQ and also commits himself to defense. He doesn't have the eye opening stats that others may, however, he just makes everything around him better. Found a nice article about him. He's a restricted FA, so Im sure many teams will be in play for him. But i think fits in to what the rockets want to do http://www.suntimes.com/output/bulls/cst-spt-bull182.html
ehh? posted an article from a month ago i was expecting a "what to do with FAs" article like the chron did with the Rockets...
Didn't Duhon allow the inbound pass bounce off his back and give Washington a wide open layup with like 20 sec left in the game while the Bulls were down 1? That sure showed some high BBall IQ.
NO!!!! This guy is exactly what we don't need. Our goal this offseason should be to acquire some actual ATHLETES, not more old veterans that are smart but can't do much else besides play defense and take wide open jumpers. Duhon plays exactly like that, only difference is he isn't old at all---he's in his lower 20's. He's not better than Sura plus at least Sura has height to his advantage at 6'5" whereas Duhon is 6'1". He's certainly not better than Mike James. James is our offensive spark off of the bench, no need to take away his minutes for scrub like Duhon. Plus, what kind of IDIOT turns their back on the inbound passer---when the play is designed to pass it to you, no less?!?! ......but he's a Dukie so that makes it okay, right?
I highly disagree ... Duhon would be perfect for this team. He's intelligent, got great court vision, good ballhandler without constant dribbling, brings up the ball quickly, excellent at passing to the open man. Very good defender, can nail the 3, get to the rim and finish, and has great character ... he'd be perfect for us. He's not that strong or incredible an athlete, but that's not what we need at that position. As a rookie, he's already started much of the season. That's pretty impressive for a team that went to the playoffs. I'd give him our MLE in heartbeat, but I'm hoping there is some way we can package a deal to get Chandler and Duhon in trade. I've been wanting that for the last year. They're our missing pieces, IMHO.
Anyone from Duke is a breath of fresh air... As long as its not some punk ass kid from Lute Olsen's school.
You're right, getting the next Mike Bibby, Richard Jefferson, Damon Stoudamire, Gilbert Arenas, Jason Terry or Andre Iguodala would be the absolute worst thing this team could possibly do.
When was the last time a Dukie made it big in the NBA? NEVER With one exception: G. Hill Duke has a nice system they run for the college game, they've never developed players into NBA material. Players who go to Duke know they are going to play under Kryzewski's system which doesn't feature individualism. Players who have NBA aspirations out of high school, but want to go to college, do not attend Duke. That's why North Carolina, Arizona, Connecticut are the choices of NBA wannabes.
Sherlock makes good points about him but he still needs quite a lot of improvement with his outside shooting despite hitting 8 3 pointers in a regular season game. The Wizards were far more worried when Hinrich was shooting than Duhon. He is a nice backup PG but I wouldn't give the MLE to him.
I am talking hall of fame material or franchise player material. Boozer and Maggette are decent players and are going to be third options on really good teams. Elton Brand is a very good power forward, but he's not elite. Grant Hill is the only Dukie Hall of Famer (and that's iffy). That's not good when you're talking about the "best" college program. Without mentioning a lot of first round busts: Jayson Williams, Hurley, Laettner etc
I don't particularly like duke...but calling jayson williams a "bust" is way off, he was a very very very good rookie. if he hadn't had that accident, who knows how good he'd be at this point.
In general Coach K puts ona good clinic, i think the problem is players leave to early and don't fully digest what he says, yet another reason for an age limit!
One Mr. Kobe Bryant was going to play for Duke, dare I say it, but if he did, I don't think he'd be rapin' woman right now!
I would rather get Antonio Daniels. He is a FA this summer and the Rockets have shown interest in him for a while. I wonder if Seattle would do a Sura/2nd rounder for Daniels S&T.
Yes! If he went to College that would somehow curb his appetite towards cheating in his marriage even though college has absolutely no relation! I mean, it's not like people sleep around in college right! Especially basketball stars who are about to go to the NBA! Your logic is flawless! An age limit is not needed.
heh actually, I'd like an age limit. not for that reason since that would happen regardless, however it'd be nice to have more rookies come out ready to play. a good example is dwayne wade.
