Thanks for posting this. It gives us the persepective view from Chinese fans. And as for your second point, I agree. But you have to realize, basketball is a business. Nike could care less, they just want to be with the winner that gives them the most money. Its a sick world we live in.
My fav 5 are: The Dream. ( Enjoy his incredible moves, his personality, his dominating performance in Clutch Years. Far ahead of others ) The Magic: (Best all round basketball player ever) Shaq. (Strongest that human being can be to play the game) TMAC at his best days (Too gifted, so smooth, no weakness, Durant's future) Chase Budinger (My fav Rockets player since Carl Landry, high hope on him) Who are on your fav 5?
Man the haterade being passed around in circle in this thread is hilarious. Some kids still can't get over what happened in a Denver hotel room like a decade ago. It's simple logic, China loves proven winners regardless of character issues.
How many people were Magic and/or Jordan fans and how many of you would have them as role models for your kids?
If you pause it on 1:37 and look hard enough you can see me from the crowd. My hands are waving and I'm holding a plastic trophy. Kobe is the bestest...
You nephew doesn't represent all Chinese. Actually very far from it, this only proves Chinese ppl are naive and dumb to the point they would believe any hype the media vomit out to them. Especially on something they don't know any better, such as Basketball. They are afraid to be different from others, afraid of conflicts, therefore the ultimate "yes" man. Just look at how they got controlled by the PRC gov't brutally for this long. It really saddens me, because I am Chinese myself and I realize how easy sway their opinions collectively.
AND this is why we have so many problems in the society... people worship "winners" like sneaky bankers, irresponsible BP managements, rapist Kobe these "proven winners" without looking at their moral issues. As long as they have the money to get away from their wrongdoing, everything is fine.
Isn't it more about....coverage? Foreign countries aren't going to show every freaking NBA game. I mean, we don't even get every NBA game unless we sign up for some crappy plans. Forget about Championships for a second, guys with consistent playoff and all star appearances, guys making all the highlights and sponsored by all the big name brands are gonna get the most recognition.

kobe is arguably the most popular player in the world. china is no different. they saw kobe a lot before and now b/c of his finals appearances. and he is a winner. people around the world usually only catch the NBA when it's the finals and kobe's been to 7 of them.
Well if you are a white american walking on the street of Changchun, you prob. will have a small following too. Not to mention Kobe. That city is incredibly backward. But kudos to David Stern for NBA marketing. What a job
Kobe convicted of rape? According to who? Clutchcity3? Hard to think a federal judge would have time to post on clutchfans.............
To label the man a "rapist" is more out of pure hatred for the man. The girl lied to get some $$$. It happens all the time in America. Not to make it a race issue, but if the tramp happened to be other than white NOBODY would've gave two damns about this. Bottom line, Kobe's a great player who got caught cheating on his wife (like most professional athletes don't) and when people who dont like him run out of critcism they resort to silly name calling. Really no room for that in sport message board, but i guess when it's Kobe all board rules go out the window
