Dude , you are so right. Me and my ex agreed on true 50/50 during mediation. I got her to agree on that because she went to jail for breaking into house with the kids in the car...... and that was the best I could get. LOL. TX fathers don't have allot of right unless the mother is a mass murderer.
fast forward a couple months..... we go to our trial (hopefully to seal the deal) ... the Judge denies our divorce (partly because of the 50/50 custody). LOL . We couldn't believe it. The other reason is my ex's parents got involved and were making things difficult.
fast forwar....... wife goes to jail again for same thing and now she is looking at 2 felonies. HOPEFULLY I will be able to get full custudy now. LOL
My divorce is pushing 2 years in the process of right now and no end in sight.
Next court date is in May. Custody battles aren't fun and are friggin super expensive but if you want rights for your kids you gotta pay. I am in debt up to my eyes and it will probably take me at least another year or so to claw myself out of but it is all worth it.

I'm almost at the point I think that getting support might be whats best for him. If we get support we will put $2,000 of it anually into his 529 plan for college. Plus he would get military benefits, death benefits should his natural father die while in the army. The only negative, though a big one, is if something happened to my wife, my son would go to him.

One thing I'll say for complaining about child support is at least you get to see your child. The main reasons why I want to adopt my son are to protect myself. If something happens and my wife and I get divorced, or she dies, I have zero rights to see him. I don't think she would ever do that to me, but you never know. Its happened to plenty of couples before. I do wish there was more of an outcry for paternal rights. The bill should be joint, but most often the child support is enough to support the child without the other's help.

It is esentially alimony often times. At least with Alimony you don't owe the income tax on the money you earned, but your wife received(though you still pay FICA on it). Women always go for more child support because its tax free to them. The system undoubtly benefits the wife.

Isn't there a way to somehow track what she spends from the child support. Lets say for arguments sake that I am paying $600 child support per month. Is it wrong for me to demand that I get receipts of what exactly she is spending it on?

Like for example, lets say she buys him shoes, some clothes and "fun" expenses and it totals to be $400 for the month. Also include any food for the kid, I'll exclude medical bills assuming the girl is dirt poor and getting help from the government. Lets say in total she spent $530 on the kid. Can I demand be put in a savings account for the kid or something?

All this process seems extremely unfair. The girl should get none of the money and there should be a way where a man can keep track of her expenses by demanding receipts. Can a man legally do this? Could he press charges if she uses any of this money on herself (for example, suddenly she starts having brand name clothing, purses, etc etc from the money the man is giving her)?

    This thread is depressing. :(

You are paying for the roof over his head too, which I guess is the justification, despite the fact that she would have to own or rent a place for herself anyways, and that you have your own roof that he is more than welcome to come stay under and you won't be asking her to chip in. What if the state just gave them food stamps from the money you have to make sure they at least spend it on food, and allow you to purchase the clothes and supplies that are needed. That would seem reasonable.

No, much like your tax dollars, there is no system of accountability in place. Only one of punishment when you don't pay it.

    Wow this is sad.

Surely teaches me a lesson in life. I'll try my best to stay out of this situation. Seems so unfair. Best of luck to the OP.

    Not always.

I haven't seen my younger son in almost a year because my ex-wife refuses to follow the visitation. I talked to my attorney about it, and he said that it would probably take more than two years of court dates and fighting before we got to the point where the judge would do anything that would force the issue.

Of course, two years from now, that kid will be 18, so the whole thing will be moot.

It's not the paying child support that bothers me. I don't even particularly care what she does with the money. It's the one-sidedness of the situation. If the attorney general will go to bat to collect child support, the attorney general should also go to bat to enforce visitation, including jail time for those who refuse to comply.

They don't. I've been dealing with this also for 8 years. After all the court costs and attorney fees doing absolutely nothing and the fact that it was always a 600 mile trip, I gave in three years ago. I still call my son every week, but pretty much just ask for a weekend during the summer.

My ex ran off with my kids to Chicago and I didn't see them for 9 months. I fought jurisdiction between Houston and Chicago and won. The judge ordered her to move back to Houston or I got custody of the kids. Then a domicile restriction was put into place saying that she couldn't move outside of Harris and contiguous counties with out my or the courts permission.

Had I lost, I would have moved up there but I sure as hell didn't want to do that. She basically wanted to have the Chicago courts determine the case so that I would have to pay more in child support.

I pay $1500 a month for my two kids which is the maximum the court allows plus I provide insurance for them both. She routinely b****es that I do not pay enough and tries to get me to pay more. Of course when I refuse, I am a bad father which is bull****. There is no way it costs $3000 a month (post tax) to raise two kids. Hell, some people don't live off that much period. While I want my kids to be comfortable, I agree that it is no longer my duty to supplement her standard of living. If they would be more comfortable living with me because I can provide better, maybe that is what should happen.

not true...it's how women decide to deal with the child support. I better not show this thread to my fiance or he won't want to have kids. :p ;)

I am really sorry for some of you guys...they are terrible to do that to you. :(
