I told ya'll, that is a scary squad. They were not playing anywhere near their capacity. I watched the game at The Richmond Arms and they just look really well balanced. Great defence this year, great crosses, very efficient and have Jimmy off the bench is quite a weapon, he still has it. Chelsea and ManU looked really good opening day. One and two down the line, which is which is the question. I am still putting money on the Blues, even though I will cheer for the Reds when they play each other. They were impressive enough, that's true. Veron looked quite at ease. I am so happy that Jimmy Floyd scored... silence the critics, my man!!!
That saddens me. In some ways I wish Americans knew more about soccer... but in others I think both camps would be content keeping the status quo. Americans like hating soccer, the rest like hating the fact that they dont love it. No offense meant, in case this statement is taken the wrong way!
In all seriousness, it's probably a good thing for Europe that the US doesn't like soccer. If we did, there would probably be the top league in the world in the US due to financial reasons, which would drain players from Europe to come to play in America. I could envision something similar to the NBA and the NHL where the top players from around the world come to the US to play. So in that sense, it's a good thing for you guys that we don't like soccer.
Good point Big Tex, I kind of feel like I am tapping a virgin every time I watch the Premiership... no they have way more money than any US sports league.... so I don't know what you are talking about.... Americans need to wisen up, this is the sport of the world.
Yeah, but then again there are more restraints to US sports franchises. You are right, though, money comes from all over the world and in big numbers when it comes to football. I do think that the US would be able to excel due to its population and general talent in all other sports and if the country actually put all its efforts on football it could be scary.
There are no more restraints than baseball... It is just that this IS the sport of England and it IS the sport of the world and the money flows in. Yes, America is the World's largest economy but it does not support the world's largest sport. But according to the free market, people will like what people like, I am not worried. In the mean time, what do you think about Chelsea kicking Liverpool's Arse?
You're right, they have more money now, but I was describing a hypothetical situation in which soccer was huge in the US. The US has more financial resources than any one country in Europe (or all of them put together, for that matter), and as someone alluded to, money comes in for soccer from all over the world, so it would be natural that the US would have the dominant league if it were popular here. I think we may be saying the same thing.
I follow Man U, and am interested to see if the new American Keeper will draw more US fans to old Traffords team. dd
Me too. I really like Tim Howard. That guy has cat-like quickness. He will probably be the starting goalkeeper of the US team in 2006 world cup.
Did Chelsea play a 4-5-1? Their starting lineup seems to indicate so. They prob had Veron "in the hole" just above Hasselbaink I assume.
