I know a lot of you like to rag on The Round Mound, but he has a great heart and a big appetite.

I thought this story was great, I know a lot of the players (any sport) do a lot of things that a lot of us know nothing about.

I hope a lot of the young guys read this and try to do the same for others out there that are in need.

Kinda large for a Robin Hood.

Seems to be a good guy. Certainly a great player and entertaining commentator. I like him despite the fact that he obviously doesn't do his homework before mouthing off on his TNT show (he admits he doesn't watch that many games, too).

What's with undersized PFs named Chuck and bizarre hitches/spasms in routine sporting activities? His golf swing is eerily reminiscent of our Chuck's free throw shooting.

Charles Barkley is one of my heroes.

It goes beyond sports hero for me: Even if I could achieve everything he did on the court, I could never be the social man off the court that he is, much like Muhammad Ali, but without the championships. There is no other two sports figure I'd love to meet and be friends with than those two. A similar comparison in the music industry would be Michael Franti. I similar comparison in the BBS is Batman Jones. He's out of my league. I used to say the same thing about rimbaud, until I met him. Turns out that he's in awe of me, so that ruined it for me.

Why are we so obsessed with Barkley? He was hardly a Rocket. The trade that brought him to Houston made us lose two of the greatest drafts the Rox ever made. And he is fat. But I guess he is really funny.

Charles Barkley is a great player but he doesn't even have a championship. There is really no excuse for that..........

Kind of odd statements. If you are a grown man, don't idolize other grown men. It makes you look weak.

BTW, this is the wrong forum. Good thing Chucky B did though. He's still a piss poor role model for kids.

I beg to differ with that, there are many examples of great players who never one a Championship. Elgin Baylor for one didn't win one.

No way. He was a great Rocket. Helped the Rockets finally beat the Sonics.

There is no doubt we would have never won against the Sonics without Barkley and we nearly beat the Jazz with him too,in fact if he hadn't gotten injured we might have won against them. I wouldn't call him a great Rocket because he did not keep himself in good shape and didn't put in a great effort on occasions when we needed him to.

As I said Barkley is a great player but he doesn't have a championship which separates him from the other great players with rings.

I don't know much about Elgin Baylor but 8 finals appearance and 0 ring AND he played with the NBA logo man and Mr.100 in 2 of those finals.... Now that is a perfect example of NO EXCUSE whatsoever.

Um, do you realize the teams that he was playing against? Yeah, it's nice to have Jerry West on your team....but what if the other team has Russell (who most consider better than you anyway), Cousy, Sharman, Sam Jones, etc?

First off, this thread was not started about a debate on if Barkley was a great player or not. It was basically to show case something about what he did...

Today's players will barely leave a freakin tip for someone waiting on their table and Barkley gave this guy an opportunity at a future.

Sometimes it's nice to hear there guys doing great stuff like that.

By the way read what Icehouse said... If you really go back and look at your history... The Celtics won the championship for 13 straight years... From 1956-57 to 1968-69... They were basically the most Powerful team to ever play the game.

Plus a championship does not define a great player... A lot of times that basically means that you were lucky and blessed enough to be on the right team at the right time.

    I feel you brother

don't you know that half these people on this board don't know anything about the Rockets? come on dude, you say barkley and they get pissed.

People who joined here in 2007 and 2008 weren't born when Barkley played with the Rockets.
