Sifting through my junk mailbox, I see something from "Chance Mclain." Thinking it might have been something misfiled, I discovered... New night job, Chance? More seriously, I assume this is not a completely random selection of "fullname," so maybe he has achieved some degree of notoriety?
I think this happens more than we realize. Somebody got ahold of my personal email account once, and started using it for mass-spam emails. Change your password regularly!!!!!!!!
Holy crap! That sucks! Um, no new night job here. Wow. FWIW I have never purchased adult novelties nor have I frequented adult sites. Maybe I should...
Yep, saw it and knew it couldn't have been you. Actually, I think it's one of Denny McLain's kids trying to raise some more bail money for dear old Dad!
i get emails like this all the time. Usually they will take my screename ex: JPM0016 and put @fjdkd (always a strange address) i've also gotten ones with my actual name in the title. Not sure where they come from but not really a big deal.
Screen/username is a common spammer trick, as many people automatically allow any email from "themselves." Same thing with putting your full name on spams to you. "Joe Jobs" are when spammers send out hundreds, thousands, or millions of messages that appear to have come from you. *You* then have to work with your ISP to clean up the resulting bounces, crashed mail servers, and random hate mail. Users rarely look farther than the "From:" or "Reply-To:" lines. Having helped people recover from such attacks in the past, even a moderate run (10K or so spams) really is a big deal. In this instance, it isn't truly a joe job (since the "Reply-To:" was not Chance's actual email address), but notable enough to let him know about it, and to give more fodder for John and Lance to give him a hard time tommorow
How do you help people recover from this? I get these emails everyday where the Reply To: address is my email address, with a fake username. It's very annoying.
