Yup. Rarely do you see a coaching hire that is so universally panned from the moment the contract is signed. I'm an Auburn fan so I'm thrilled LSU locked themselves into a loon, but it was amazingly incompetent of them.
Bryce Love needs some more mention. He has been unreal all season. Won't get any Heisman love because of his team but he has the best numbers of any RB right now
LSU hiring Coach O reminded me of West Virginia hiring Bill Stewart after he had a successful stint as the team's interim coach when Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan. Like Coach O, Stewart was a steadying force during a turbulent time for the program, was really popular with the players, and led a triumphant finish to the season (in WVU's case, an upset win in a BCS bowl). The powers that be got caught up in an emotional situation, made an impulse decision, and ultimately realized it was a poor decision. I think it's still early to write the book on Coach O as the full-time coach, but a loss to Troy certainly doesn't help his case.
So...all that means is you have Bruce Pearl and another corruption scandal? And that's just hoops. God bless the SEC.
According to the FBI report, it had nothing to do with Bruce Pearl. However...given that he's the head coach and responsible for his assistants, he very well could be fired because of it.
