Hmm. I'm wondering if this is a claim actually worth staking. Aside from Popeye's, Somethin' Serious, Navy Seafood and Shipleys (which really should be a national chain) I can't remember anything unterrifying about that street from undergrad. And that Metro stop outside the Roberston parking lot looked very "lived in," like the ones around the Med Center or at WH and Montrose. But having been completely unaware of this matchup, I am genuinely glad to see Texas/Houston teams playing against each other: slightly more compelling than an Alabama-Birmingham, UNC-Charlotte or Southern Mississippi matchup. Do we finally get the deed to TSU if we win? I'm thinking we could totally use the extra dorm space; and they wouldn't mind financial solvency for a change.
Point well taken: unlike the other fast food joints there that rush to lock their door if they see you walking up there past 8:30 pm (posted store hours be damned). I was getting thighs and gumbo there around midnight or so, during Tropical Storm Allison. Water was at my ankles on the way there; at or above my knees on the way back to Cougar Place. Quote of the evening? "Ain't no raaain storm gonna keep a brotha from gettin' his eat on."
Maybe we'll beat y'all in hoops this year, then. We beat TexSo by 21 and outrebounded them 46-16 last week...
Coogs up 47-0 at the half. Tulsa leads Rice 27-22. If Rice comes back and wins, I thing UH goes to the CUSA Championship Game.
Rice tried to give the Cougars the CUSA West title, but it wasn't meant to be. So what bowl game are the Cougars headed to now?
It depends on who the bowls decide to select. Here are the CUSA bowls Liberty: Champion GMAC: #2 PapaJohns.com: #3 New Orleans: Memphis (already accepted bid) Hawaii: #5 Texas: #6 After the championship game, UH will have the 2nd best record (3rd if Tulsa wins). But it's up to the bowls to select who they want. If they feel another team would draw better, they could pass over UH. The CBS and ESPN bowl projections both predict UH will fall all the way to the Texas bowl.
Houston vs TCU might be enough to pry a pair of tickets out of me. I don't think anybody pays much attention to the whole "which ranked school out of which conference" thing..and most of the lower tier bowls will find teams with some local appeal. That said I did briefly dream of UT vs Houston...lol
a big "Go Coogs!" to the UH fans that came out to support Rice this afternoon...we gave it a good shot...we'll get the $ellout next year...
