DD. The same thought crossed my mind - on paper it meets both clubs' needs. However, having watched the Mavs a bunch this year, they are coming to appreciate all that Jamison brings and I don't think they would trade him for a "journeyman" center. I think Jamison will be starting soon. I would do this trade in a heartbeat. And you are correct, with Shawna (no typo) Bradley's "latest" injury, they really have no one other than 6' 8" Fortson to play the post. However, I don't think Dallas is desparate enough to do this deal. Hope I'm wrong because Jamison would provide an option at the 3-4 that we could use. D R
i can't believe i'm saying this... keep cato. i dogged him hard for years, but he's the strongest person we have at center. yao is soft and doughy while cato is not afraid to attack the basket with reckless abandon. he's a solid back up center, so the 42 million dollar man stays.
Cato is... worthless. Ok, maybe except for dunks. I seriously believe Braggs is much better than Cato if given a chance.
I say do it. I've been hoping for it since Dallas got Walker. Jamison is expendable and they need a center. It might leave us a little thin on the bench. That would be my only worry. We could bring Braggs back or find someone better than Man Boobs to back up Yao.

DD, You have the right idea. Obviously we need scoring. And I like Jamison's game. Les might pick up another max contract, but I don't know if Antawn is the one. Jamison would give us some scoring, yes, and would be solid as a 3/4. JVG knows his team can't score but is he hardheaded enough to avoid certain no-D players like Jamison? Also, I don't want to help Dallas, even if it is to help ourselves, as badly as they're playing, Cato is just what they need. Whatever trade(s) we make, we will need a backup center, because Amechi won't see the light of day and JVG hasn't played Alton Ford much (Ford being more of a 4 than a 5 but would do in a pinch as backup center). I would prefer Shareef Abdur-Rahim (with a nod to the fact that I am not the first poster to mention him in this thread). He also plays no D but can score and pass (two strange concepts for our team) and board. Atlanta wants to dump salary (what a gawd-awful franchise; makes the Rockets look like the Lakers). And SAR can be had. Find an expiring contract for Atlanta (Antonio McDyess) and make it happen. I wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets are just waiting to get past the Lakers game before pulling any kind of trade.

The same team less Arenas, Boykins and Jamison but with Van Exel is 13-13 Basically, Cliff Robinson has replaced Jamison. Apparently no one is concerned that Jamison was made expendable by Troy Murphy and Dunleavy, Jr. 5 seasons @ $68m tells me all I need to know.
The Rockets definitely have one of the worst payroll problems in the league, but Jamison is a guy that is probably worth his max contract, but hasn't been able to fulfill it and probably won't be able to in Dallas. Im definitely down for that deal, but Dallas could probably get etter deal for Jamison than an overpaid, sometimes lazy C.
Anyone that wouldn't do this deal from a Rockets perspective has no clue about this team. Jamison is a good, consistent scorer and decent rebounder. With that being said there is no way Dallas would make this deal simply because they could get much better offers throughout the league. Overall this is a dreamcast.
Antawn Jamison is one of the most overrated players in all of basketball. Not quick enough to play the small forward, nowhere near talented enough to match up with the elite 4's in the West. That does not equal max money. He's a marginal upgrade over Maurice Taylor, and that is again nowhere near worth his contract. Taylor's $8million/yr isn't going anywhere soon, I'll pass on adding Jamison's $10mill+ to it.
Cabbage. You could not be more wrong....Jamison is an untapped talent that is the next coming of Bernard King if he gets to the right team. For those of you saying it is pie in the sky.....I don't think so... Dallas is desperate for a servicable Center, and Cato fits the bill. The Rocks could make this happen IMHO. DD
cabbage, Jamison is a better overall scorer, can get out on the break and is a better natural rebounder. I agree as a "4", he would get worked physically by some guys, but as a "3" he can at least make his man work. I also agree that his salary makes him undesirable, but if we could unload Mo, I'd give it a look. Dakota, you're dreamin if you think Dallas would even fathom a Cato for Jamison deal. Dallas may need a servicable center, but they would get better offers.
I'm kinda on the fence about this from a rox perspective ... Yeah Jamison is an upgrade over Cato, but Jamison is an overpriced tweener. If Cuban was willing to eat Mooch's contract I'd be all over it - I'd even be willing to toss in Nachbar. But despite Dada's assertions, I don't think Dallas would do Cato for Jamison, let alone the addendum I suggested. I'm not so sure JVG would be willing to give up on Cato either, strange as that may sound.
I have some questions: How good is Jamison at taking pressure off other players? (cutting, staying open, hitting the open 15-footer) I know his passing is horrible. Only reason I'd do this deal is to stockpile talent and later mold it into a better team (Sacramento, Dallas, now Memphis are in this mold).
