This will end up in the recap as well but I HAD to post it. Francis was being interviewed by Bill and Calvin after the game and Murphy asked about Cato's play. Francis said that what really surprised him is that in a team meeting yesterday, Cato stood up and said that the team looked "piss poor" in shootaround (against Orlando) and that if they wanted to beat the Spurs, they would need to come out much more agressive. Cato had 8 points in the first quarter. Wow! Who the hell is this guy and what the hell did he do with Kelvin Cato? Maybe we should give him a new name so we don't confuse him with the guy that played the last couple of seasons!
I think Cato is looking real good. And yet you guys say its a fluke. How bout some encouragment? I was happy with his hustle and strength down low tonight. I was also impressed with Ike. I don't mean to get off topic but I really hope this guy makes the team. I know I had posted in threads before saying how much he sucked, but I love the guy now. His hustle and desire, he's the kind of guy you want on your organization. Not the slower version of big country.
Now this is music to my ears! I've been waiting for this! If he steps it up like this we are in fat city! The only concern I have is depth in the frontcourt. Our frontcourt is so thin. I would love to get Jahidi White, or to get Gatling and an extra big man (Scott Williams) just to add depth to the frontcourt.
I've dogged Cato's attitude & effort a lot, but, while I'm still going to wait until at least 20 regular season games have passed before admitting that he's finally arrived, I've got to say that I'm impressed with his hustle & attitude in the last few games. I was absolutely shocked to see him in tonight's game. I had heard that he wasn't going to play. I was even more surprised by Francis's comments about him. Maybe, just maybe......... Once, when he was called for a foul under the bucket, he turned & drool was spilling from his mouth. He was pissed at the call & I thought that he looked like a rabid dog frothing at the mouth. So, I'm thinking that if he continues to play with that kind of intensity, we should give him a nickname. How about "Cujo" for a name? An angry beast roaming under the basket. Dunk if you dare. Okay, so I'm still going to wait for those 20 games to pass first.
Lets see him do all of this in the regular season before we trump the arrival of Kelvin Cato. Preseason is his time of the year remember? Cato also shoots 3-ptrs during warmups before the start of a game. Surprisingly he is good at it for some reason.
Give the guy a break.... He fooled us into thinking he was all-that. He's a naturaly lazy punk. Great. We all know that. The guy is trying. He's putting forth the effort and doing better in general. That's all you can ask from anyone. Try to get better. And he's doing that. If you're dissapointed he's not Hakeem, well tough. He's not.
Why should we cut him some slack, after showing some promise he gets the big deal and then does **** on a Stick for the next two years, sure he's shown some improvement but the reason all this trouble started was because of his false performances in the preseason to begin with. Lets wait to see his performances against the Big Boys in the REAL season, until then he has done Diddley-Squat for loads of cash and until he proves us otherwise he is fair game. Move the Target
Maybe he should practice catching passes, then. How many turnovers did Cato have this game? I'm not dogging on Cato; I probably like him more than most on this BB, but a little bit of constructive criticism might do him some good. He needs to keep his eyes open and be ready for a pass, 'cause he's turning over too many easy baskets.
Exactly. I am thinking he does all of this talking in the preaseason. I am not expecting the second coming of Hakeem, but I do expect him to play like a $42 MILLION center in the regular season.
