Kelvin Cato has had a really disappointing season, especially when you consider that he signed a six year, 42 million dollar contract. His has had only a few good games this year, and even Kenny Thomas after he became a starter has been more consistent than Cato. In the game tonight against Seattle, Pig Miller played in clutch time instead of the overpaid and overhyped Cato. Cato is definitely a good athletic talent, but one has to question his motivation. I also question the judgement of the Rockets front office of signing him to a big contract after one breakout game in the preseason. He should have to EARN a contract like that over a longer period of time. The rockets made the same mistake with Matt Maloney and could be paying for it for years.

the reason the rockets signed this man up for so long is because he's just that "an athletic center". those are about as hard to find as dodo birds. there is a great shortage of big men in this league, and if you can get one that has some potential to become good then you're lucky. that's what the rockets did. i bet the pistons or the wolves would be pissing their pants right now if they had a guy like cato on their team. he plays D, and in a little while might become a mutombo type of player.

if we hadn't had signed him he would have gone elsewhere to get his money and we would have nothing. At least now we have either a 3rd-tier starting center or something of value for a trade. I'll give him one fully healthy season to call him a bust or not.

Face it folks, this guy flat out stinks!! At least currently. Cato's play as of late has been in all honesty, bloody awful...and that's really saying something.

Cato's a guy that has huge potential, I think we've all seen that he can be quite brilliant when he sets his mind to it. So for his play of late, I would probably place the blame both on Cato and on Rudy. Face it, Cato needs CONSTANT motivation. If he starts to lose it he plays terribly...and so on... Most players need motivation, but Cato seems to need it more than most. However, you would think that signing that FAT contract would be enough motivation for most people...I guess not...

I think Rudy needs to give Cato some special attention, personal attention to get him going again. If not, I feel that we will see a hell of a lot more 6 point, 2 rebound performances down that track.

    Just a thought though.....

I just don't understand how Cato and his great physical attributes cannot grab more than 6 rebounds in 4 games.

    Incredible!!!!

I'm gonna give the guy one more season before I make a final decsion on him. I want to see how and if he dedicates himself in the off season. The guy does not like to lift weights or work hard in the offseason from what I hear. Maybe peer pressure from Francis and Company can light a fire under his tail.

The worst part about it is that rebounding is a measure of hustle and determination more than anything else. Even the 6-3 Francis has been outrebounding Cato lately. He doesn't have to average 14 rebounds a game, but it isn't unreasonable to expect 8 per game for a young, athletic center. If he plays like this next year, he should be gone. I don't know how much Caroll Dawson can teach Cato if he doesn't want to learn.
