    Hola,

So I went and bought a nice looking Siamese cat today ... well, more like adopted. The store washed him up very nicely, and what not. But he's been shedding like nobodys business ... is that normal, or is there something wrong with him?

He has his shots and all that stuff, so it's not like sick or anything, at least I don't think so. Also, poor thing has the ****s ... diarrhea ... first it kinda let it out on the floor, a little bit, thank god! Then I got him to go in the litter, but he's not cleaning himself up ... then the lil devil came and sat in my lap ... leavin a lil wet spot gift on my jeans.

How can I fix this? Some medicine, or is he just kinda getting used to the new place?

Thanks for the help in advance!

The shedding is normal because it's getting hotter. It'll stop after a while. As for the other stuff, you might need to take him to a vet.

I think the cat must be allergic to you.

Get a brush and use it. It'll love you for it.

Kinda strange he wouldn't clean himself after taking a dump though. You have to be careful with store bought pets. Many times they aren't taken care of properly, especially dogs that the stores purchase from puppy mills.

You do need to take him to a vet and get the once over. Even if he's had his shots already. I take our to the Memorial Cat Hospital. They only deal with cats. It's on Memorial close to Gessner. It's a good place if you live close to there. They also board cats when you need to go on vacation or whatever. 713-461-2287

The diarhea might in part be due to his change in diet, unless you're feeding him the same stuff that he was getting before you got him.

A call to the vet couldn't hurt, though. Hopefully the little guy starts feeling better...

Get him on dry food. That may help with the runs. Fresh water every day. We only give our cat one can a week and dry food the rest of the time.

We have a string tied to the cat brush. Our cat will find it and drag the brush to us to be brushed. She'll even let us use a vacuum hose on her.

Don't cats tend to shed a bit more when they are stressed out? Its probably just getting adjusted to the new home and stuff. Cats act pretty weird in general when they are stressed out.

Ours are shedding their winter coats (even though they are shorthairs)

Cats shed this time of year. I wouldn't worry about that.

The pooping part is something I may at least call a vet about. It could be he/she is just getting used to the new place. I don't think you need to worry too much about the cat pooping. Now when the cat stops pooping, that may be a sign of something bad.

Again, the cat has not been given a routine checkup since being bought. Shots or not, that cat should be checked out.

A lot of cats shed during spring time. :)

This is very good advice. Most vets will tell you that you have to change a cat's diet very gradually. Whenever I change brands of cat food, I always mix it in with his old food first. Something like:

    1/4 new, 3/4 old - 1 week
    1/2 new, 1/2 old - 1 week
    3/4 new, 1/4 old - 1 week

As someone with a long haired Maine Coon, I would kill to have him let me use the vacuum hose on him. You lucky lucky individual.

This is a great opportunity to start a new trend: cat tats. What reputable parlor wouldn't put some ink on a cat?
