I just got a little kitty. I put him down and he ran into the kitchen. I can't find him, but I can hear him. He must be hungry. I have checked everywhere, under the stove, fridge, etc. He sounds fine, but I think he may be hungry. I guess he's scared of me also. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." are you serious? or is this some sort of late april fools joke? you really can't find the cat in your kitchen? I would let him/her be... hopefully in the morning or in a few hours, it will come out...maybe leave some food out for it. If it comes out while you are close by, talk gently to it and coax it towards you... use the ever popular "here kitty, kitty, kitty (in a high pitched voice)...maybe use something that moves or wiggles, a wad of paper, something on a string or your hand...or get a flashlight or laser pointer and see if it'll come out and attack it?! Once it comes out.. try and play with it, call it, then, when you get it... love it and love it and love it... be sure to get a litter box. Try to keep the box in the same location so the cat will know where it is. Our cat's have always been in/out cats so we don't use a litter box except in winter. What kind of cat is it? B/W, calico, grey, tortoise shell, boy/girl, persian, etc... I have a calico who is soooo cool. She loves to be held and is just a really cool cat. She hangs out with me sometimes when I watch Rocket games. good luck gr8-1, check the web for tons of cat info. I'm no expert but have had a few cats... keep us posted! anyone else with suggestions? rH ------------------ Homecourt will always be 'The Summit' to me!! Until we move downtown!! Leave some food out, and leave him alone. He will come out at some point in the night. First things first -- when he gets out, get him a collar with a jingley bell. ------------------ All your hoes are belong to us
If you find where the kitten is hiding but cannot get to it, tie a piece of foil to the end of a string and run it back and forth past the spot. If he/she does not get it, then she may be stuck. ------------------
I don't think that your kitty is stuck... just scared. When we bought our new place, the girls were terrified and hid behind the washing machine for over 24 hours. Hopefully this is resolved by now... but if not try to make a little warm hut for your kitty to find and hide underneath. If you can't stay in the kitchen (or your house) just try to check back in your little kitty hut (a blanket or towel over a box w/ a hole in it might be mysterious enough) to see if the kitty has moved. Whenever you get your kitty back, make sure that you seal up any of the dangerous hiding spots. ------------------ (===)
I agree with rH and Vengeance on leaving some food out, and leaving him/her alone for awhile. If its a kitten, it would probably prefer milk. Cats are often skittish when you bring them to a new place - especially if you brought it straight from the animal shelter. There may be a little adjustment period. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
SC--I'm pretty sure milk is bad for cats. I don't know if I'd suggest that. I could be wrong though. Really, I've had cats for years and then brought them to a new place and they immediately run and hide--this is nothing to be worried about. The kitty will come out when he's ready!
Is milk bad for cats? We've had alot of cats, and always given them some milk as kittens (not for adult cats). And not as a standard meal - more like a treat. I never thought we were giving them something bad. I just figured that the milk might lure gr8-1's kitty out faster than meow mix. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
I found a kitty stuck in my old Volvo's oil pan and it could not get out. I guess it was there to get warm but I don't recall the weather being cold. I almost started my car and drove off when I heard it. A friend and I ended up fishing the kitty out with a fishing pole while tying a piece of cheese to the line. When it grabbed the bait, we grabbed it. It was a dirty job. Another time....a supposed friend thought it would be funny to put a kitty in the trunk of my car which I mistakenly left unlocked at a party I went to. I didn't find it for like 15 hours when I heard it crying. Never found the owner so we were going to keep the frisky critter as he was a great kitty. But, the kitty got away some how and was never seen again. A poor little kitty all on his own...no telling what happened to him. Poor little guy. Sniffle. Man, check the disposal drain before you turn it on. I would find the kitten...not leave it up to chance. Poor little kitty. Meow. Surf ------------------
Milk isn't bad for cats but it should not be a regular staple of his/her diet. As kittens, they might need it depending on age. As adults, they might like a little now and then but it can give them diahrrea. As for your situation, gr, leave the cat be. Put out some CANNED food - the smelliest stuff you can find - or canned tunafish. Also, put out water. The kitten will come out at some point to investigate. DO NOT turn on any appliances that are not already on - stove, garbage disposal, etc. Also, DO NOT open up any doors that weren't already open. That just gives him/her more places to hide. Be patient and the kitten will emerge. With as many cats as my wife and I have, we've been through just about everything you can imagine. Let everyone know how it turned out! ------------------ AAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!
well, I found him under the dishwasher. I don't know how he got in there, he must be very limber. Anyways, I thought he was stuck, as it looked like he was trying to get out. I found a way to get him out, but he's been trying to get back in. I sealed off the area. I don't think it's safe for him to go in and out of there. He still has not eaten or used the restroom. Ok, now he is under the fridge. He's constantly crying, but I know he's gonna want to go back in if I get him out. Maybe he misses his mommy. He's only 9 weeks old. If a cat can get into something, he should be able to get out of it, right ? ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? I know, but he won't eat. I think he likes to be under the fridge now, and I'm not sure he wants to come out. I really don't know what to do. I'm feeding him kitten food (dry) from PUrina. He's meowing like crazy, but I don't know what he wants. I guess I should let him come out when he's ready, but what if he doesn't ? Should I force him out and put him in my room ? ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." If you are gonna force him out (and I wouldn't), I suggest putting him a bathroom or a closet. That is where we always put ours when they need alone time. He is probably just scared and will need some time to acclimate to his new surroundings. Remeber this is a totally new experience for him. Do you have a litter box near him? I know one of my crazy cats cries a lot if her litter box is dirty or when we travel if she can't find it. Cats are just fastidious like that. What color is he? I also suggest getting a collar with a bell. Always helps when they start slinking around. good luck! ------------------ Poopy! And, yes, I have a boyfriend.
He's under the fridge, and he's meowing away. He's grey and white. I put a piece of smoke salmon on his food, so maybe he'll come out now. I just hope he isn't stuck. He isn't very fond of me right now. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Look into getting him some tuna. It's not bad for him, and most cats LOVE it. He's probably a little scared of you right now. Let him come out on his own time, etc. and then put him somewhere enclosed just until he's comfortable. If he can get under the fridge, he can get out (95% of the time), and if you leave him alone for a bit, he may begin to warm to you. Cats are cool. ------------------ All your hoes are belong to us
Don't try to force him to eat. You are right to put him in a closet or your bathroom. Some very small cats actually like to stay in a cat carrier or large cardboard box when you aren't playing with them in a similar way to dogs in cages. If he refuses to eat even tomorrow, get a baby bottle and bottle feed him milk. He should be weened but some kittens need more time than others. Keep us posted. ------------------ poopy times twoopy
gr8-1: At that age, he's going to be pretty insecure. When I was trying to make our last litter people-friendly, I put a shirt that I used to wear a lot near their box, but not in it. I moved it closer and closer, and eventually, they were comfortable with the scent and slept on it. That way, they're not intimidated by your big-bad size, and they get to know you. BTW, you can buy milk specifically for kitties at the grocery store. We always use that, and that rids us of the diahrea problems. Glad you got a cat! well, he decided to come out on his own. I put out some wet cat food. I was very nervous about him under the fridge, but I guess Achebe was right. I named him Frasier, and I think he's starting to like me. Thank y'all SO much for the advice. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? At 9 weeks old, probably so. You might try putting him in a closet for a day or 2 (along with food, water, and a litter box). Lots of good places to hide without the danger of getting trapped under a large appliance. He can get acclimated to the house slowly that way - less intimidating. We had one that we started that way, and within a few days she had moved from the closet to the bedroom to the entire house. Do you have any toys for him to play with? ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
