Wally was the T pups 2nd and 3rd option. He doesn't get to the line nearly as much and cannot creat for himself. On our team he would be no diffrent than Rice, Walt, or Bullard. Plus he looks like it hurst him to play D.
PLEASE not Wally szczerbiak. i really dislike this guy he can't guard and the only reason he scores is because Everybody tries to guard Garnett. Wally is a verry overrated player, It was hilarious he was an all star 2 years ago. He can't play. If the rox do this trade i wil really start to think about if this team wants to win It would be a worse move then the time we signed Quitten
cat held iverson to 29% shooting for the season against us. if somehow he is not the player that is going to be traded for a PG then we can afford to move him for someone with less defence. trading a big for a small usually works. if griff is in fact being traded then he can be moved for a big defencive minded PG like crawford or A.williams. if that happens we already have a defencive presance in the back-court and cat is expendable. wally's offence would be a nice fit for us at SF. just think of yao getting double teamed and kicking it out to a wide open szczerbiak. after a couple of 3's yao will probobly not see a double team.
Problem is, Wally-World is exactly the type of small forward Rudy has loved over over the years...if he is still inluencial in the organization, I can actually see something to this.
The problem that people really don't see is that Wally is a good 3pt shooter, but his scoring isn't just on that. He only shoots the 3 when he has too, but on avg , he shoots about almost 3 a game, whereas Cat shoots almost 4.5per game. If the offense is going to have Him just sit out at the 3pt arc, he wont be nearly as effective. What was the point of drafting Nachbar again?
And Szczerbiak is such a clutch player? This trade would be brialliant for the Rockets, with Yao Cuttino is the odd man out. He's not a spot up shooter, and that's what they need at the two. Its simple, but I doubt Minnesota gives up on Walley just yet.
Wally would be absolutely perfect for our system...I'd do it in a heartbeat. For those of you who thinks Hudson is a better player than Szczerbiak is insane. Sure he had a great series with the lakers but he was playing out of his mind.
I am not really a Wally fan. I think he is highly overrated. He has a lot of holes in his game. If he was in our system I question whether he would take shots AWAY from Francis and Yao much like Mobley does now. If we are getting another shooter it has to be someone like Brent Barry or Pike who could be content getting shots whenever they come their way and if they aren't getting shots they don't really care. To be effective Wally has to be VERY involved in the offense and here he would be a "bit player." Of course I am not even mentioneding the DEFENSIVE side of the ball where he is completely exposed. I don't think Wally solves our problems and contract wise I am not sure we could make a deal work. As mentioned above, the Wolves are not really good trading partners with us.
Rememeber if Wally is on our team, he'll be a role player and not the focus of the offense. Having too many guys like Cat who thinks they can create their own shot is NOT a good thing. Some fans here still have the same ISO mentality like some of our players. Cat has the ability to create for himself but he doesn't really make his teammates around him any better so what's the use of having that ability?
If we can make this trade while dumping Moochie's salary at the same time I wouldn't be opposed to it. However, we're forgetting the x-factor, Bostjan Nachbar. He's expected to be scorer in the Stojakovic/Turkoglu mold. Not to mention that Wally struggles to defend 2 guards, and his real position is the 3. Also, Mobley averaged like 41 minutes per game last season. Who is going to make up for his minutes lost?
That's not true. Contrary to popular belief, Nachbar is supposed to be a slasher and a mid range jumpshooter. He's not a three point shooter, according to the Rockets staff. There would be room for both on the court, if Nachbar can play defense.
Wally was born to be a Cav. IMO Wally will be a Cav next season. Davis will be in Minnesota. Others will be involved, but they will be the main players.
In my opinion, Wally's contract and "reported" ego are the two problems. I think he has a max deal kicking in and if he has or had big problems with KG, I can't imagine how he would deal with Francis. I also don't know if this is the route they will go - simply swapping Mobley for a different shooting guard. However, if it was as simple as having either Mobley or Szczerbiak on this team, I'd take Szczerbiak.
Clutch, what bothers you most about Mobley, the way he plays or his personality? Do you have a top 5 list of things that bother you about him?
Sorry, I stay with Cat given the straight up choice of Wally. I have no sense what the Rox really plan on doing with SF as a 2 but whomever comes in (and someone WILL) should be a combo guard ala Christie, bigger, 1/2, D and O, IMO.
In other words, Szczerbiak will be a BYC player next year, making him nearly impossible to trade. He also has a trade kicker. So put this speculation with the trade Francis speculation.
Do you mean why I would take Szczerbiak over Mobley? Basically because Wally is a year and a half younger, 3 inches taller, less turnover prone and a much better shooter. Wally's career shooting numbers, from the field and long-range, dwarf anything Cuttino has ever come up with in any one season. But again, it's not a deal that strikes me as one that drastically improves the team. Personally, I'd rather try to acquire strength at a different position in any Mobley deal, namely at point guard or power forward. I wouldn't be surprised if they sought veterans in the backcourt - possibly guys you may not think would contribute, but could, like a Steve Smith. As for why I would move Mobley, it's really just simple conclusions for me. Mobley-Francis just doesn't work long-term in my opinion - it was cool and all when this team had nowhere else to go. Cuttino and Steve were tough, tough covers for opponents. But now, with a potential franchise center in the mix, it's more obvious than ever that neither of these two guards complements the other very well and neither is intelligent enough on the floor. They badly need a "smarter", more team-oriented player in the backcourt. I think Francis could play either guard position better than Mobley - he's a better scorer and passer. Francis has a huge contract while Mobley has a cap-friendly contract. If one is going to go, it will most likely have to be Mobley.
