He had a great series against the Cavs and is a FA now. He's got a great overall game and a real passion for it, which can't be taught. He's been traded a couple of times but I don't really consider that a red flag since one involved Shaq and the other was the Phil Jackson Experiment of Kwame Brown. I initially wanted Bonzi Wells, but his baggage scares me a little and he may have outpriced us in his recent series against the Spurs. I think Caron would play well next to TMac much like he did with Kobe in LA, which makes me wonder what the chances are he'd come here for the full MLE and a real chance of advancing in the playoffs. I know V-Span might come over this off season for half the MLE, but I'd be willing to leave him overseas another season for the chance at Butler. Also, I think his contract expires after next season so it would work out better not having to buy him out this summer. We need a real vet at the 2 more than we need a project this season.
He is not a free agent. He signed a 5-Year extension with the Wizards before the season. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/31/AR2005103101425.html
How about Damon Jones? He is a great three point shooter and could be in the trade market. Though he started the season hot, i think he was starting, he really lost minutes toward the end of the season. If we dont take Redick, like we should, this guy could come in and help right off the bat. Cleveland wont ask much for him anyway. He makes a nice sixth man, kind of what barry did for us.
Damon Jones has terrible taste in clothing. Other than that, if we could get him for cheap, I'd be down.
i don't mind jones, except I can't see how we can find time for Jones and Head...unless one of them is at the 2 spot and another is the backup 1. Which leaves Spanoulis to rot at the end of the bench, if he can come over.. and the prospect of having 2 undersized shooters in the backcourt at the same time against the likes of Kobe kinda sucks. We need size in the backcourt along with the strengths of Jones
Jared Jeffries is a FA and I think definitely worth a look at. Not a great shooter, but a tough defender, excellent rebounder, with the ability to play and guard SG at 6'-11".
Damon Jones hasn't been really doing all that great in Cleveland. He was doing awesome in Miami but when he got to Cleveland, most of the time, his shots just weren't falling. Cleveland wanted Damon because he's a proven shooter - but in this season, his shooting percentage is way down. But getting Damon Jones wouldn't be that bad. There is no chance that we'll get Caron Butler - but imagine if we could. I really like his game. Caron Butler would be amazing if he was on this team. Imagine all the open shots he would be getting because of the double and triple team on McGrady or Yao.
I dunno if he came up big because it was the playoffs, or its contract time, but I really liked how he played against Cleveland.
I would love to get jared jeffries can play 3 spots for us defensively 2,3,4, i think he will be in our price range as well. Pick up jr smith through a trade of (32 and 8 possibly) for nok (12 and 15) This would add height athleticism and most importanly depth. Alston: Head:Sura (Hopefully) Wesley :Smith: Redick (12th) Mcgrady: Jeffries (FA):Bowen Howard: Splitter (15th) Hayes Yao:Swift: Mutombo: Thoughts?
1.there is nothing we can offer to get Caron Butler from Wizards 2.do we need another defense specilaist if we decide to keep Bogans? 3.we could use 2nd round pick to have our "Damon Jones" easily-Steve Novak(better shooting) or Mike Gansey(better defense)
Butler will be good for this team ...but i wonder if washington would trade him after showing a good playoff performace....as for a defensive stopper, Bogans will be back for us to play that role
1.i think they would do this if a big man that they want shoots up the draft board. 2. I honestly think we would have to give head or stro up to make it work. Your right
I would happily give them head or stro to get Caron Butler. Sadly, I don't think Washington would ever take up on this offer.
The Kwame/Butler trade was absolute theft by the Wizards. No way they give him up. Forget Damon. He was exposed this year. Put him next to a super-guard like Wade & a center named Shaq and he has a career year. Put him in the backcourt with anyone else and he becomes a 6 PPG part-time player again. If Damon would accept that he's nothing more than a 15 MPG backup, bring him on. The problem is he thinks way too highly of himself. His one good season with the Heat went straight to his head. He also has the maturity of a teenager. Some of that media stuff in Cleveland this year was just childish. He ain't worth the headache.
butler is a GREAT 3rd option, and isnt bad defensivly, and grabbed 20 boards other night!!....but wizards wudnt trade him for any1 on our roster besides PERAHPS say stromile and a number 1 pick, but wud that be worth it? im not sure
How about we trade Swift/Howard to NO for Moochie (who has a team option for next season) and their 2 first picks. The trade would not be official until July 1st, but could happen. Then we waive Moochie and the long contract of one of our PF. Or we could trade Swift/Howard to NO for Smith and one of their first rounders. Either of our bigs have more trade value than JR Smith. They have publicly stated that they are looking for a veteran to help spell Brown. They are not looking to get any younger. The Rockets really need quality depth at every position and the only way to afford to do that is through the Draft. There are some good players in the mid to late that could contribute right away.
Swift is not the 'veteran' they are looking for. JH may fit that description, but with his contract itll be tough to move him.. Why would we want 2 more first rounders anyway? Then JVG will have 4 rookies to deal with.. We're not the Chicago Bulls.. We do not need that.. especially with the lack of roster space we have. We need quality upgrade not quantity.
