Take it for what it is worth but Matt Jackson said sources close to Drayton said he plans on offering a contract to Beltran similar to Bagwell's. 5 years and 75 million
it's not my petition. It's one started by Ray Kerby, who helps run Astrosdaily.com. It made channel 13 news the other day. Ray Kerby and Jeff Balke..two of a kind!
I was going to say that you have to give Bagwell money. If you have a Beltran, one of the top players in the game for years to come, and a ball club in need of a good young player for the future, you have to sign the guy. Drayton got robbed by having the bad luck to extend Bagwell during the same year that Arod got his money from Texas. that raised everyone's salaries that year including Hidalgo. Old news. You have to build on what you have got going this year if you want to keep this franchise peaking like it is right now with Clemensmania. As long as there are no idiots offers like Hicks made to Arod, I say pay the guy what he's worth and not worry about Bagwells money. It instantly makes Houston a major player for years and gives McLane and Alexander a major jump start and potential national draw for their new network, (along with Yao/McGrady) Absolutely must sign Beltran!
Hopefully Roger and Andy are giving Beltran every single reason that playing for the yankees isn't as good as playing for astros
If true, I would be happy with that effort. If the Yankees offered more (and I suspect they will...maybe the Cubs too) and he takes it...oh well. That kind of talent is going to command a LOT of money...and his performance in the postseason to date is really opening everyone's eyes to his ability.
the astros drew 3 million fans this year... If we set out a jar that said .. raise money to keep beltran.. I wonder if we would have raised enough.. mattress mac or some fan might have made a nice kick in I wonder if anyone has ever donated to a sports owner to sign a specific player .. probably not
Signed, someone is going to offer this kid a bundle more than Drayton.... instead of pitching in to help Drayton, why don't we pitch in and rent a billboard in Houston begging Beltran to stay? The only way he chooses Houston over more money will have to be something he loves about the city. I'm in if anyone wants to organize it. How much and for how long is a billboard rental?
What the hell is Beltran doing talking about other places to play when we still have business to take care of here? (Sorry, no link. Found it on a different board, but apparently it's from the Tribune)
Without a link, I don't believe it. But now I do: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/printedition/chi-0410150335oct15,1,2896264.story No mention of him staying with the Astros in the entire story, only that he's probably going to sign with the Yankees. I like the fact that the Tribune Co. also owns the Cubs.
Hopefully it was just a really biased feel-good propaganda for Chicagoians. As far as we know, he could say something nice abuot every ballpark he goes...don't forget that he said nice things about Houston too!
I think that's what it is. It's the Tribune Co. trying to get a little pub for their team. Beltran will be an Astro next year. BTW, my finacee' works for SignAd. If you guys really want to put together money for a board, I think the prime locations can run close to 8k a month (which probably means no, we're not going to put one up ). Depending on the board, you may be able to lease one for a month or two. They are Astros' fans with a lot of open boards around, so who knows? Maybe they'll donate one.
Why not put one up? Would it really be that difficult to come up with 8k? Put up a notice on all the astros boards, here, the Texans boards, get 610 and maybe the Chronicle involved. Clutch and Chance have a little pull for some publicity. This can be done....
Wow, a billboard. Think it can get done? 8K. Seems like a lot, but if we can get 800 people to donate 10 bucks... Wow...RM2k...what location would the 8K sign be? A month doesn't seem too bad...get some info if you can. LET'S GO BELTRAN LET'S GO! *CLAP CLAP*
