My radiator blew out recently on my 95 Honda Accord.. possibly due to no oil, and no water in the radiator.. and my car pretty much overheated.. well I replaced the radiator and my car seems perfectly fine.. well until I drove it around and im seeing a huge oil leak that is pouring down around the driver side area near the timing belt.. i havent been able to find out the exact location .. does anyone have an idea? I also have a 95 Nissan Maxima with my check engine light on..that would tend to stall on me at a stop light.. it usually happens when I have my AC on.. I drove around the block and pulled into my driveway.. kept it in drive but held the brake down and my car would shake occasionally... then when i turn my AC on the car would just shut down..I recently changed my spark plugs, I replaced the battery.., and i noticed a leak on my radiator but i sealed it up.... any help would be appreciated , thanks! note: im a full time student.. with a part-time job.. so buying a new car isn't an option
That's a pretty common problem with those mid-nineties Hondas, but it's pretty involved to repair. The crankshaft seal (I think that's what it is) goes out and they hemorrhage oil from exactly where you're talking about. Honda later made a retainer clip that fixes the problem for the long term, but you have to dig pretty deep to put it in. Check to see if there are any recalls on it first.
Sounds like the rear main seal is leaking -- you need to have it checked quick because if it pours oil on your timing belt causing it to slip you can kiss your valves goodbye ($2000).
I recently tuned it up yesterday... but before that... possibly a year or more? i just bought the car from the owner and she didn't maintain the car well at all.. i had to buy new batteries, changed the spark plugs, change oil, air filter, oil filter, a couple of fuses went out.. and the check engine light is on... would it cost alot to fix the wires?
have you ever had a ride in a light blue car? have you ever stopped to think who's the slave and who's the master? have you ever had trouble with your automobile? have you ever had to push push push push? cartrouble you might have seen them very busy at the weekends licking and polishing the beep- beeps into shape and then its proudly up the M.1. The rear main seal is where the engine meets with the transmission, which on a 95 Accord is about dead center in the engine housing. Almost every car that's over 15 years old has a leak at this spot, though most are minor (A quart of oil per month). There is a front main seal on the timing belt side of the engine, but that's probably not what's going on here, because again, it would just be a minor, occasional drip-type leak. In Tonaaayyyy's case, it's either the crankshaft seal or the camshaft seal. Here's a wikianswer on the subject: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_yo...oil_leak_is_coming_from_the_timing_belt_cover
Another thing to add is that you shouldn't even try to fix this problem yourself. I did it once about 4 years ago on this same exact model (4 cyl., I assume), and it took 2 experienced guys with proper tools about a week (and a lot of beer and cussing) to get it done. As far as the Nissan goes, it sounds like an electrical problem that would probably require some professional equipment to diagnose.
awesome... the answers helped alot.. because i googled most of the info and im narrowing it down from your answer the crankshaft.. which my friend also answered the same thing and he's a mechanic.. something which i couldnt do to fix myself without the help of lifting up the whole engine and taking the timing belt on and off... and my friend also mentioned an electrical problem with the maxima.. my dad however loosened up the distributor cap?? or w/e it was.. and it put in a little more gas to keep the car from stalling .. im guessing its the wiring as well or some sort of electrical problem because my turn signal is beating like a mad max in the 94 finals and a couple of fuses went out so ill try to see what else goes wrong .. Thanks for the help!
