So a damn rock hit my windshield on the freeway...all the way at the upper left hand side and that b**ch spread right away. Its impossible to fix now cause its long as fu*k. So considering I have a 2007 VW Jetta my questions are: 1. Do I go to the dealership or can I trust the 3rd party auto glass shops? I have no idea what kind of windshield this is and if it has any sensors in it or not and if the shop asks me questions my response would be I dont know. So I want to make sure that I get the right replacement. 2. How the hell do you replace the registration and inspection stickers? 3. My insurance deductible is $500 ... so does that mean that no matter where I go I will have to pay for the repair up to $500?
1. Yes, third party windshield replacement services are dependable and reliable 2. They are able to switch them for you from your old windshield to the new one 3. Not worth filing a claim over and probably will fall short of your deductible
Holy crap. The quote from Safelite is $405 if the windshield doesnt have rain sensors and $455 if it does. This freaking sucks. Furthermore I cant find the info about the stupid rain sensors anywhere. Do dealerships replace windshields? If they do, will it cost more or not always?
I need this also for a 2000 Buick Century. Would like it done at my job which very close to Intercontinental Airport. Recommendations appreciated.
Dealerships almost always use a glass company to do their work. Now, they will sell the factory windshield (which is no different from aftermarket), but use a 3rd party company for the labor. You are better off just using the 3rd party company and their aftermarket w/s.
Check with your insurance to see if windshield replacement has a deductible. I'm with State Farm and there is no cost to me. The only caveat is I have to go to a shop that State Farm recommends.
Grrr...my deductible is $500 Why????? So can anyone recommend anything good besides Safelite Auto Glass that offers low prices, warranty, and free same day mobile service?
Its hard to beat Safelite. Most insurance companies use them because they have the best prices on average. Check w/ Apple Glass 713-680-1400. They are off of 290 and Antoine. Your comp deductible is $500? You should get that lowered. Underwriting requirements for comp rates is not nearly as subjective as collision.
Call the junk yard. They have new and prewind windhields and will install them too. Some new winshields could be as cheap as $90 w/ $90 labor.
similar thing happened to me. It was the heat of summer and a rock hit my windshield just east, outside of austin (freaking construction). It was REALLY loud pop. Scared the hell out of me, but i didnt see anything. By the time i got to llano i looked over and saw a crack about 2 inches long. (turns out the rock hit just below the windshield wiper.) Kept driving. 20 minutes later i look over and its even longer. I start to keep tabs on it. In brady, it ran another 3 inches. long story short...ir ran about 3 feet in 2.5 hours. same thing. $500 deduct but never claimed (it cost 404 to replace). see if you can add windshield coverage to insurance and in a few months claim it. 3rd party dealers are good. Just make sure its a new windshield.
You know, I think the rock that hit me came from construction work too. They are doing hell knows what on 288 south and there is a lot of loose gravel on the sides of both right and left lane. Damn them! The funny thing is after I noticed that the crack is getting bigger I hit the windshield with my arm and it expanded by about 5 inches right in front of my face. There goes half of my paycheck....and I was gonna use it to buy another guitar!!! I think I will go with Safelite just because I dont have time to deal with this and the $405 quote (before tax) includes onsite service. Now...do you have to tip the technician??
dude just take it to any windshield or window repair, dont be so anal about it, and dealerships will charge the **** out of you...
lol. hitting the crack is usually only a good idea when youre in bed with a girl i didnt tip. didnt even think about it, really. But i did get them some drinks, offered some food and shot the breeze with them
as you probably know already, cracks can be fixed but if the crack is too long then im not sure if its possible to fix..
Dropped my car off at VW dealership this morning. Turned out to be cheaper than Safelite. The price is $350-375
reviving a very old thread.. but if the crack is small enough, aren't there places that fix it without replacing the whole window? does anyone know where i can take it to get it fixed? i'm around the galleria area on westheimer. thanks.
