So the guy waited over a year to key your car? I guess it makes sense if he didn't want to make it obvious.

Looks like your going to need to have an old fashioned stake out to catch the guy. If you don't want to do it yourself you could hire an illegal for less then minimum wage. Or you could just key the **** out his car or slash his tires and hope it was him.

If you choose to go the slashing tires route, do it monday morning or before he goes to work.

I saw on tv this dude's hummers kept getting keyed so he installed a small camera on his side mirror to catch the perp...turned out it was like a 75 yr old tree hugger who was doing it to protest the gas guzzler... you can get a small motion detecting camera for relatively cheap i think...just make sure you turn it off before you beat the guy down or return vandalize

This just happened to me today. My car was cut 9 or 10 times, most a foot long and going into the steel. So was every other car on the block. I am still fuming about it, but I am trying to figure out if I should go to Maaco to get it fixed. And how much will I be spending to fix these scratches?

Ya I'd say get the motion sensor camera. It's most probably someone you know that's jealous. I got both my cars keyed at my mosque and later on I did find our who it was. Once you have anything on them just threaten em and they'll pay up. Ask for double or triple for the repair or else you could tell them you'll talk to your lawyer. Find that douchebag and make em pay. Good luck.

Wtf, going into the steal? That's some hate keying right there. Think back if you think you did anything that someone might take offense to. Or it could be just some s****y teens with nothing better to do.

I hope you find the dude and key his skin until you hit bone. Eye for an eye, sort of.

You honestly can get a decent motion sensor type of small camera for cheap. Will have to make sure the lighting/positioning is correct. Try to get him on film and then extort him.

FFB can provoke the guy a little somehow and hopefully he will try to strike again.

    1) Avoid Maaco
    2) File an insurance claim and take your vehicle to a reputable collision center

It was on the side of the side walk and on the hoods and trunks. There is still one car parked on the block from Thursday night and it has at least 20 scratches on the side and trunk.

How much would I be spending out of pocket to get this fixed? I'd need my trunk, two doors and hood repainted. I don't carry comprehensive insurance.

At a reputable facility, usually $250-$300 a panel.

My brother's car was keyed on both doors and the rear quarter panel. $500 deductible and the insurance company covered the rest. Damage was ~$2,500.

Was your brother's car a rare color/an expensive car? Because mine is a ford and the paint is common.

Your paint would be unique to Ford, just like any other manufacturer. In addition, just because it is a Ford, doesn't make it any less expensive to refinish as it is going to be a urethane 2 stage finish, just like 95% of the vehicles out on the road.

That being said, $2500 is extremely high for 3 panels.

If your deductible is $500 and the damage is only $350, do you still have to pay the deductible?
