I'm curious if anyone on the message boards knows anybody that works on the electrical side of things on a car. I'm having an issue with my car that is blowing out my break light fuse, therefore not letting me shift from Park to Reverse to Drive, etc. In the past week alone I've replaced the fuse 3 times which makes me think that there might be a short somewhere that is causing this to happen. The one clue I have when my fuse goes out is that whenever I try to honk, the fuse blows out. I tested it a while ago when I replaced one of my fuses and pressed the horn (car was not on) and the first thing I heard was a pop.

So once again, does anyone know a guy that's helped him out in the past? I live in the southeast side of Houston and I would appreciate any recommendations since I'm not sure how to go about fixing this. I would take it to my mechanic but he doesn't work with electrical type stuff.

My best guess is the brake switch above the pedal. I've seen several 90's-model Hondas with this issue. They crap out in one way or another...and it's a cheap, easy, do-it-yourself troubleshooter.

No, Its not the brake switch under the brake pedal.. That has nothing to do with it..... I work on auto electrical and this to me sounds like a short.... I would start by checking out the wiring in the trunk of your car. Since this happens when you put it in reverse then the short may be in the wiring going to your "in reverse lights"........ I have seen this issue many times and most of the time its going to be the wiring harness that runs through the hinges on your trunk...... Check it out, pull off some paneling and trim if you feel comfortable enough.. If not then let me know, maybe I can take a look at it at the shop I work at and get you a clutchfans awesomeness discount lol.. Or just go for it and I will try to guide you on how to fix this....

I really would prefer for someone to look at it. If you can help me out I would definitely take it to your shop. The brake light switch doesn't blow out when I shift into reverse, it blows out when I try to honk. I guess more specifically, the three times it has happened in the last week was when I honked. The honk has worked in the road, I honked at someone earlier this week, however when I got home, the few times I tried to honk (while already on park) it no longer worked. Later when I would come back to run an errand my car would no longer shift and this is when I would replace the fuse. As I explained in my earlier post, today I replaced the fuse and without turning on my car, I tried to honk to see what would happened, and sure enough I heard a loud pop. When I turned on the car again, my car would no longer shift so I checked the fuse and it had blown out again.

if you could help me out bro, I'd appreciate, just want my horn to work and do not want to replace a fuse every other day. I'm not comfortable messing with anything electrical which is why I rather take it to someone.

By the way for the person that suggested the brake light switch, that was my initial guess and I did replace it, but that wasn't the problem, it was the fuse. Like salvy said, there is more than likely a short somewhere but don't know where it is happening.

yup sounds like a short somewhere on the wiring of horn/brake lights. Check the harness for brake lights or wiring of horn for exposed wires. You can try disconnecting the brake lights and honk the horn and if fuse does not blow you know it is the wiring for brake lights and visa verse with horn wiring.

Go to Clear Lake Nissan and make an appointment with Clint Gaines. He's a good friend of mine, he's a GTR/350Z tech, but if you send me an email through the board I'll let him know you're coming in. This guy is one of, if not the best in Houston. I'll even ask him for a discount for you.

Thanks a lot bro. I took it to them this morning, but since I can't leave it them today I'll try some other time this week. Seems like a great shop though and will definitely take it soon to get this fixed.

    I appreciate everyone's input!

But if the other shop is closer to you or you liked it there then thats fine as well lol..... Good luck man... I will check the thread regularly untill your problem is fixed..
