So I'm upgrading my entire car audio system. Well, most of it.. But most of the stuff is irrelevant for this question.

I'm not a person who wants the ridiculously obnoxious bass going cause it annoys other people, and I don't think it sounds that great. But good, punchy, solid bass is a good thing.

So in an Accord (4 door sedan), would a single 10" sub be enough for me? Or do I want/need 2 of them? My friend has 2 10" subs he can give me that are already in an enclosure...they're powered by a 250 watt amp, so that's approximately the power there for the pair.

It'd be nice to save space (and I don't think it'd cost much to move one into its own enclosure) if 1 of them is all I'd need. But I really don't know..

    Thanks for the help!

One 10 might be enough for your car if you had more power than just that 250 watt amp. I have 2 10's in my truck and have 500watts going to each one. It can get loud for sure, but I never crank it up like that........well almost never. :)

The more watts you can pump through generally the better. (keeping with in the speaker limit of course) More power means your amp doesn't strain near as much, making your bass cleaner and more accurate.

Car audio is one of those things where you get what you pay for.

For the limited amount of power you're using, I'd recommend a ported enclosure... 250 watts is enough to push two 10's in a ported box.

Just make sure you pick subs with a high DB and low power handling ratings.
Also, a larger sub will give you more bass with the same amount of power, so unless space is an issue, I'd go with 1 or 2 15" subs in a box tuned for about 35 hz.
You can tune lower but will sound more "boomy".
