I used to be against capital punishment when I was younger. I was also stupid. Now I'm older, I can support capital punishment for the reasons that have been explained more eloquently that I could in this thread. WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY!!
As human beings we are fallible in everything we do . Since it is impossible to attain certitude concerning the truth of the case and mistakes will always be made because of said fallibility, how can we claim the authority to put someone to death?
1. You are a hostile source. 2. The odds are against that being the case. Again, let's ask Dr. Laura.
Originally posted by Princess No, not on drugs. I think you just like arguing with me. I think it's wrong that rapes and beatings happen in prison. But they happen in prison and criminals go to prison. It's not justified but it happens. If you don't want to get raped and beat up in prison, then don't do anything that will get you into prison until something changes the way prisons are run. People in prison are under the direct care and supervision of the state or federal government. Everyone, including prison inmates, has basic human rights that need to be observed regardless of your idiotic finger wagging of well that's the price you pay. Commit a crime and get raped while doing your time isn't how the saying goes.
You do just like arguing with me. If they were under strict direct care, things like rapes and beatings would not happen. Again, I never said they should be denied human rights (in fact, I said the rights taken away should be the rights that the government gives, which does not include human rights). What happens to people in prison is terrible and wrong and they need to stop. But again, until they do stop, you're running a chance of it happening to you if you go to prison. Commit and crime and get raped, yeah I said that. It's not fair or right, but it happens. And if you're in prison, it could be you. If you don't want to get raped in prison, don't go to prison in the first place.
Actually I detest arguing with you but you say so many bogus things it's impossible to ignore them all. At the same time, don't you think he shouldn't have committed the crime in the first place? I'm not saying he would deserve this to happen to him. Nobody does. But he made a choice to commit a crime for which he could go to prison. It's awful, but I think that's the price you pay. It's awful but you think that's the price one pays for committing a crime and being in prison. You seem to have a hard time remembering what you say. Maybe if women don't want to get raped they shouldn't wear revealing clothing. It's not fair and it's not right but hey if you wear sexy clothing you run the risk of being raped. Now please come back and tell me how that's a bad example because these women aren't in prison and tell me about that whole human rights thing again and how you're not justifying the rape of inmates but hey it happens.
Timing- I'd like to address your rape of women example first. Revealing clothing actually has very little to do with who gets raped. One of the most common articles of clothing that rapists look for is overalls, which are pretty non-revealing. They bring scissors with them and cut the straps off so they have easy access. If women don't want to be raped, they shouldn't walk around parking lots late at night and they should learn self-defense and other ways to protect themselves. It's not their fault they got raped but not knowing how to be safe is their fault. Nothing I have said is bogus. I do know what I have said and what you have "thought" I said. They don't deserve to get raped or beaten up or to get aids from it. However, if a man who raped and killed anyone got raped in prison and contracted aids, I don't know if I'd really feel sorry for him. Why does he deserve any pity from anyone? He made a choice and should accept whatever consequences come with that choice. This is one of the reasons that I think the prison system needs to be reformed. It's their fault too for not protecting inmates against these acts.
An inmate shouldn't be fearful that rapes, beatings, and other crimes will be an additional consequence of his sentence. A crime is a crime. You can't pick and choose who gets basic human rights on the basis of whether you like them or not.
Yeah, especially if they just smoked some pot or anything. Could you imagine rockHEAD in prison. The thought makes me sad.
Did I say they should get beaten and raped? Did I say this is a necessary part of their sentence? Am I choosing who gets raped and beaten? Things are not fair in prison.
Why does he deserve any pity from anyone? He made a choice and should accept whatever consequences come with that choice. Sound familiar?
See, if you would have actually read all of my posts you might know the answer to that question. I'll let you know if you don't feel like looking.
Hmmm... so what you're saying is that inmates should accept the consequences of their decision which include prison beatings and rape, however you're not saying that inmates should be beaten and raped?
Why do you try to "interpret" everything I say? Can you not read, do you not believe me or do you just like to stir up trouble with me? You still have not answered my questions.
Actually, part of the problem is at all levels in the system. And it's partly a money problem, but even when you eliminate all variables like that, black people are still 6-7 times more likely to get the death penalty, according to Baldus. Juries are part of the problem. But prosecutors choose to seek the death penalty much more often when they're trying a black person. Same thing during judicial sentencing... I don't know if I have an easy solution, either. But I think the death penalty cannot be justified, no matter what, if certain people are ridiculously more likely to get it than others based on the arbitrary characteristic of race. AND: Actually, princess, I've read every word you've said. And as usually, it's inconsistent and nonsensical. If you break the law, you give up all your rights eh? Such as not to be brutalized, I suppose? I always thought of that as a right... I wish to know how this would be implimented.
