You’re right. He will never be an AD/Cousins type of player and it’s cool cause we don’t need him to be but having Capela develop a short-mid range jumper/post game is not as worthless/hopeless as trying to teach that to Dwight who was already 28 by the time he got here. Again, my point is we don’t need him to do those things right now and with the makeup of this current team but thinking down the road they will help.

If we’re gonna pay the guy the same amount or close to the same amount of money as AD/Cousins and KAT/Embiid are going to make I would hope he can develop a post game and a short range jumper. We don’t need him launching 3 pointers or hoisting 18-20 footers but a 15 ft jumper and a basic post game should be in his arsenal and a pre-requisite for commanding a 100+ million dollar/max contract. Otherwise we’d have another DJ/Gobert type of player/contract situation. They’re not bad but definitely not getting full value especially when compared to the names mentioned above.

I'm not saying Capela shouldn't develop, but if we're going to ask him to work on his game why focus on an aspect that will make him less effective and is antithetical to our offense? While Capela is young and springy our best option is to have him run to the rim. The premise is that midrange jumpers will open up space for CP3 and Harden but that clearly has not been the case with other shooters with even three point range. Him taking midrange jumpers would simply be bailing out the defense. If Gobert started taking midrange shots against us we'd be laughing, but it's supposed to be a point of development for Capela?

Plus, Clint's a four year player already. We have to be somewhat realistic as to how much he can improve. If he becomes a Dirk or KG level midrange shooter then great, let him take it all day. Those guys were automatic. But I doubt he can actually get to that level. He's a 56% free throw shooter. Let's see him get that up to 75% before we even talk about him taking jumpers. What he can improve on is some of the stuff he's already shown flashes of. A bit of post game, short dribble drives to the hoop, and definitely better court vision.
