The PS3 uses a proprietary OS developed internally by Sony (or someone the contracted...can't remember). AFAIK, I don't think it will let you do any of that stuff (last two probably won't ever happen either, though WMV support might be there). I might be wrong about the video podcast part though. I can't remember how advanced the RSS support for the PS3 is, or if it is even there (doesn't help that I haven't really played with video podcasts on my PC yet). Of course, you can download videos from the Internet to your PS3 IIRC (assuming they are compatible), or you can have a PC on the same network download it and send it to the PS3 via DLNA media streaming (I'm really loving this feature BTW...though it does have some issues).

If you install Linux, you could theoretically do all 3, although the last two probably don't work (not sure on the specifics of how WMP is distributed on multiple platforms...that may never happen with Linux on the PS3 even if it was possible).

Cant download WMP to the PS3 but you can access it through the wireless network. So as long as your computer is running you can play all the music, view all the photos, and watch any PS3 compatible videos. Any video can be converted into PS3 compatibility. This all part of the DLNA RC mentioned.

People got Limewire running on either Yellow Dog Linux or Ubuntu (or whatever its called). But its not a simple download and click type procedure. It takes some tinkering.

wouldn't it be easier to just transfer your music onto your ps3 from a usb drive or something. Loading and running limewire on it would be pretty stupid in my opinion, as well as time consuming.

If MS came up with a PSP but a little better in features, and made it cheap, I think the enthusiast crowd would make it the best system ever. From recieving VoIP phone calls, a GPS, game player, PDA w/ office suite, bluetooth hub/WAP (AD2P required), music center and IR for universal TV. It doesn't even need graphics better than the PSP.

I'd pretty much want a Gizmondo with a larger touch screen, better aesthetics, and a WM6 OS.

With the right design, that would kill crackberries, iphones and be a solid gaming handheld...

why would you want windows media player on it when you can stream stuff from your computer on to the ps3 wirelessly.

If you install Linux you could do it though.

I think for now the only video files PS3 will play are QuickTime format and MPEG files.
