Really dont understand turning down a wide open jumper for a contested 3. In situational basketball that 15-18 footer is crucial.
Harden's been doing this since his MVP years, Morey has clearly brainwashed him and he will never change even though the whole system has hurt us in crucial playoff games.
Why should everyone else be inconvenienced by a few people who can't grasp the math? Pointless going over this again. If someone doesn't understand avoiding mid range jumpers in 2020, it's time to just move on.
If you hit a couple of them it will change how the defense plays you and create more lob opportunities for the screener. The point is you want the defense to worry about multiple things. You can't turn down open mid range jumper for a contested step-back 3. Logically it doesn't make any sense.
This is on Morey and D'Aantoni. They're still obsessed with small-ball 3s and layups sans the Steph and Klay 3 point shooters. It's hilarious, really.
I don’t think Harden should be completely avoiding the midrange...at least have it in your arsenal when it’s looking like a 3-17 night from 3 or a bucket is needed by any means necessary in a tight game
Kind of the point. If you don't have Steph and Klay type shooters. . . it is better to shoot 3 than 2s Guys who are 40% 3 pt shooters. . .are about 40% midrange shooters Rocket River
After these years being Morey's guinea pig and seeing Kawhi's coronation, I don't think we have to go nuts about what we do, but results are clearly pushing us to ask a few more questions. Can the midrange 2pter be an inefficient shot that has to be used tactically to open more valuable shots? We are not asking to change the team's shot profile, we are asking if there is a point on a game or a series where you go more traditional? Even if we accept the "high variance" theory, we should have contingency plans. And I understand critics/haters getting desperate at this.
He's not paid enough to do everything he's doing AND ALSO shoot 2's. Tilman's too cheap. Someone else do something.
Dude's an idiot. Mclemore shoots a wide open 3 due to Harden's drive and kick instead of a mid range. "Not a good shot because Mclemore wasn't in the flow of offense." WHAT A ****ing idiot. There is no flow of offense in Houston. Dude was open. Drive and Kick IS a core part of the Rockets offense.
Yeah, agree with you, he evaluates us through his expertise and you can tell he does not see us that much. The other part of this thread is about the WHOs. This is a former Washington Wizard ex scout who is infamous on twitter for his rants and fights with people. And hate for metrics. He is a big Russ supporter for example.
Years he's wrong about the open 3 for Mclemore that Harden generated but he is usually pro-harden so he doesn't have an agenda or anything like that.
People still thinking in 2020 that Harden takes only 3s over mid range shots because Morey and/or Mike told him to do so
He killed GS with that mid range game in the 2015 WCF. If we didn’t have Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni guarding Curry the series would have went differently
