I'm trying to figure out where this guy has disappeared to? The injuries he keeps sustaining are not typical of his career or a person of his age.
Does he not want to play with the team?

If these "injuries" are real, what does that say about Keith Jones and our training staff? I can't believe that our team can face so many injuries year after year after year, when so many other teams can go through an entire season injury free.

So what gives? Does anyone have a theory about why we continually need someone to be hurt? Or what is the "real" problem with Cato?

    Nothing is this coincidental.

There's already another post discussing this...no need for another one.

Anyway, have you ever jumped up and landed on someone else's foot? If you have you know it hurts very bad. It has nothing to do with conditioning.

My guess is that if Rogers weren't about to come off the IL, Cato wouldn't be on it.

I'm sick of people assuming that Cato is faking these injuries. Why would he do this? I'm sure many of you wouldn't play through 99% of the stuff that they play through.

I don't think anyone is saying that he's faking injury...I'm sure he's really hurt -- just like Brent Price, Cody Carlson, Chris Chandler, etc. were always hurt. Those guys were brittle. There's a reason some guys get hurt more than others. How can Karl Malone only miss 5 games in 15 years (Stockton had a similar record until recently)? I don't think it has anything to do with luck (save the Malone jokes, please). Did Michael Jordan ever miss a game during the 6 years he won rings? These guys are either just tougher, or in better shape.

Hoop-T;So you play basketball, so you played in Jr. college, so what! You are not an expert. Tell me why a 6'11' center that can jump out of the roof wants to come off the bench. (that's what he said)
So let's just say you are an expert because you played JC ball. I'll ask you this question. Have you ever asked to come off the bench because you play better off the bench? Maybe I never played JC ball but I know I play about three times a week. I know that I don't want to come off the court ever!(when there is a game)
I don't think that he was faking an injury. However, I do believe that he does not have the fire that it takes to be a star in this league. Look at Francis and Mobley, these guys leave it out on the floor every night. You can not tell me that Cato comes to play every night. He has a good game every now and then and I do believe he has the skill. However, he will never be the cornerstone of any organiization because he has NO HEART.

it's funny... this thing we call HEART. in the Dickerson thread, heart seems to be overrated. in this thread, heart is everything. i agree, though, Cato has All-Star potential. it's just up to him. he should be averaging 15pts, 12rebs, and 4blks a game. he played great in the preseason consitently, but after he signed that contract, he played great sparingly... coincidence? i don't know... i just hope he returns and shuts us all up and make us look stupid!

Nor are you Mr. Mumu. Nor are you.
I am in here stating my opinion. I can appreciate the fact that you do not agree. But please don't put words in my mouth by saying I claimed to be an expert. I stated my opinion as a former player on the matter of enjoying being on the floor. The simple fact is, I don't believe Cato is exaggerating an injury, nor do I believe he lacks heart.

My senior year in high school. First game of the year. I come off the bench to score 16 points and grab around 15 rebounds, mostly offensive.

Second game of the year. I start. I score 2 points and have maybe 5 rebounds.

I ask the coach to come off the bench.

I finish the year averaging around 10 points and 7-8 rebounds. And I win the Tiger Award for player with the most heart.

I'm not claiming to be an expert, I just believe some people feel more comfortable coming off the bench. I always got a good feel of how each game was being played, psyched myself out to play a certain way, and when I was the first off the bench, I would bring hustle and intensity to the game.

I'm going to go ahead and assume that I'm not the only player in history who felt more comfortable coming off the bench.

And just because I wanted to didn't mean I had no heart or desire.

How can you say Cato has no heart?! Don't we all remember where he shut down Shaq defensively on three occasions? Remember, he blocked Shaq the first time down and then the Rockets went down and scored, then he blocked Shaq again they didn't score, and then the third time Cato took the offensive foul. He single handedly won the game for us in the last few minutes of the game.

Hey fat. I guess Charles is faking it to or it's Keith's fault.

Maybe you just sucked as a starter and needed to come off the bench to play against tired/bench competition. [IMG] Just kidding... maybe.

Ok, what would you all rather have? Cato being a starter and not playing so good, or Cato coming off the bench, playing the same amount of minutes as he would as a starter, and playing a lot better?

I think Cato just realizes his limits up to now. I think it actually takes more heart to ADMIT that you're better off the bench for the sake of the team.

I too am frustrated with his injuries, but I hope he gets better soon. I would really like to see both him and carlos in the game at the same time. Those 2 bring a lot of defense, hustle, rebounding, and fastbreaking to the table

Most people would not play with that pain because most people dont sign a 6yr; 42 million dollar contract. Two words can describe this guy, NO HEART. Injuries are a part of the game but he makes a dramatic seen everytime he gets hurt. He screams like a b.... and flails his arms around like he was shot. I thought he ripped his acl. Hell I thought he lost a limb with all of that drama. I can't stand players with no heart!!!

R95, the reason we have to start a new thread about this is that my original thread on this topic had way too much punctuation in the title. [IMG]

If you saw the game, you saw what happened. It didn't look enjoyable. He didn't just roll his ankle. His foot twisted in a way it just wasn't meant to.

Do you really think Cato is "faking" or over exaggerating an injury? It is ridiculous to assume that. I personally have played all my life, even some junior college ball, and I don't know about you guys, but I lived for the time out there on the court. I wasn't even getting paid. These guys are getting paid to do something they love. Cato has always been an aggressive player, and he plays, rebounds, blocks shots, and dunks with ferocity. You can't question his heart unless you are not watching this guy play. Then the accusation is unfounded anyway!

Injuries happen. Just deal. Next time Cato gets in the game and swats a shot or dunks on someone, all this speculation will go away.

    OT, Will, et al:

From what I have seen over the past four years, we always have some sort of injury with one of our major players.
Now, the past three years have been excusable, due to the average age of our players.
However, this year has to be carefully scrutinized because this young of a team should not be dealing with this many injuries. Period.

As for Cato, I'm singling him out because he just came back from an injury, and what is he? 24 years old!?

C'mon now, do you really think all of this is just a weird coincidence?
    Me neither.
