Ok I'm not too sure about this cause I heard just a brief blurb between innings while I've been watching the Astros game tonight, but it was mentioned that Calvin Murphy might like to coach the Rockets. So, for more info watch (if you can) the Southwest Sports Report later on tonight (after the game) to see what this is all about. I would'nt mind seeing him come in as an assistant or something and work his way up. But shoot, I sure would miss his colorful commentary!
That's not the same thing I'm talking about...this is some feature story on him that will air tonight on the SSW on FSN, in which he may or may not say he'd like to coach. Again, it's probably more or less a fluff piece. But you never know, he could be serious and may want to come on as an assistant or something. Who knows. But in any case, its probably worth checking out.
Well he has to apply for the job like anybody else. With that Matress Mac guy promoting Murphy and now this fox sports net promotion I get the feeling some within the organization are against a guy like Van Gundy because that may mean real change whereas a guy like Dunleavy or Murphy would allow most personnel and hanger-ons to keep close ties with the Rockets. Maybe some in the organization feel their job security or ties with the organization will be weakened with a totally new coaching regime. I can see Matress Mac against a guy like Van Gundy because he would probably lose some of his close ties with the personnel and players. maybe thats why he is making a desperate push for Clavin Murphy to be the Rockets coach.
Matress Mac will become less important to the organisation, as soon as the new Arena is ready. The Rockets wont need Westside any more. The new Arena has its own facilities. This will mean that the Rox wont be beholding to Mac much longer. So Macs influence is being reduced, not by any future Coach but by the organisation as of now.
Who or what is the Trotters? Be sure that Calvin Murphy was seeing what was going on far more clearly that Rudy T and his Traainee Coaches. Murphy would make a great coach but should start as an assistant first.
Well they actually interviewed him in response to this whole Matress Mac "Calvin for Coach" campaign. And they asked him straight up if he would like to coach. And Murphy said yes. He would like to coach but doesn't think it'll happen. He said, with his age, that its his time to step into the ring, and that if it doesn't happen now it prob won't happen. And if that's the case, he's perfectly fine w/ doing color commentary w/ Bill.
