I'm looking to get cable here in Austin. The main thing that I want cable for is all the sports that I miss. Do we get Rockets and Astros games here in Austin, or is it all San Antonio and Dallas sports? If I can't get Houston sports then I won't get cable.

    Any suggestions?

    Yeah, move to Houston...:)

I can never get a Rockets game when I visit my sister in Round Rock...

but they do have those exciting Austin Ice Bats...and a future NBDL team...woohoo!

You get just about all the Astos games, but 0 Rockets games.

This year you would have been able to see almost half of the Rockets season on national TV. I no longer have cable, so I go to Legends at 183 and Mopac a couple of times per month.

As far as a cable supplier, go with Grande if you have that option. They have a really good package deal with digital cable, internet and phone. I'd have it if it was in my area of town.

Either way, you'll get 130 games on FSSW and the rest on either national tv or channel 23 (on Time Warner).

so that is pretty much the only way to watch the rockets is by getting league pass? and can you get that without having cable? probably not but its worth a try.

In Austin with Time Warner digital, you get the Rockets games on TNT, ESPN, ABC and NBATV. It actually adds up to quite a few games, but of course League Pass is the way to go. If you have regular cable (not digital) you can still get the games on the stations I just mentioned except you don't get NBATV.

You do get almost every Astros game though even with regular cable. They are either on FSSW or channel 77 that is basically home shopping until right up before game time and right afterward.

This is the first year in 3 years I have not had League Pass and it is not enjoyable.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think so far, I'm not going to go for cable. I don' t really like watching TV that much except for sports, but after thinking about it I've decided that I'm not home during most of the games anyway, so it wouldn't be worth the $$$ to get it now. Maybe once I get a "real" job I can start taking time out to catch the games. Until then, I'll have to keep following the games here.

I used to have Time Warner here in Austin, but Grande is the same thing only cheaper. Call 220-3880 and put your ZIP code in and it'll tell you if service is available in your area. I'm switching to Direct TV now because with their sports package you get another FNSSW to watch the alternates. The Rockets games allegedly come on quite often on Direct TV here.
