I love Strategy War games.....would you say this is the best one you have played or would you recommend another?
I'm still a sucker for Civilization 2, it was my favorite, but it wasn't strictly war though. I really liked C&C Red Alert 2 also.
i loved the game when i bought it. I beat the U.S. campaign in a few hours. I played a little with the Chinese and Terrorist group then got bored and traded it in for store credit which went toward the purchase of a ps2 game, probably high heat 2004. Reading about the new expansion pack has caused me to want to play it but it's gone, so i guess it's back to Madden 2004.
I don't know if it is the best Strat game ever but it is very pretty and lots of fun. Some of my other favorites and reccomended games would be (in no particular order): Any game in the C&C series(Tiberian series or Red Alert)- all have been good and each offers different things. The original quite possibly was the defining game for the Genre. I stumbled across it accidentally and fell in love with it. In fact while typing in the thread earlier I was considering putting it back on my PC to play in my spare time and now I think I will. Civ II - a great classic game Total Annihilation (probably my favorite game and one that has been on my PC since I got it). Fun gameplay and had one of the best multiplay communities I've ever been involved with.THere were some excellent maps and mod units available. If you have this game and never saw the Core Ice Cream truck you must re-install the game and find it online now. It is quite possibly one of the funniest units ever made for any game. Rise of Nations- I do not know why I like this game other than it is just fun to play. Age of Mythologies- I have never been real big fans of the "Age of" games but I gave this one a try and I was not disappointed. I am looking forward to the "Titans" expansion but will probably hold off getting it for a couple of weeks. CK
The first expansion pack, Zero Hour, is out for Generals now. Came out last week and offers extra missions, extra units, and generals who specialize in some forms of combat (air power, tanks, etc.). Hoping I get it for my birthday later this week but if not I'll probably go out and pick it up.
I hope you get it for your birthday too. If you don't I reccomend you go out and buy it anyway. It is pretty good.
Damn dude, that is exactly my life for the past 3 months. Just got madden a few weeks back, and it is sucking up all my free time. I love BF1942.
I thought I might update my General's Challenge experience. I played 2 more challenges last night. The first was against the US Air Force specialist. HE starts off peppering you with aircraft and helo's (Incidentally I played on medium difficulty. If I had played on hard I would have lasted about 5 minutes max). I built a ton of AA that seemed to wipe out his forces rather quickly. I built my requisite 3 Overlords 1w/ a prop tower the other 2 with Chainguns. I sat and waited for my funds to build up while racking up kills of his aircraft. I built several chaingun tanks and a couple of Nuke Tanks. then I built 2 Nuke Silos. BY the tim emy building was complete I had 2 nukes ready and had built up general points to get a nuke drop, EMP and a 3rd level bombardment. His base was built in a rather small area surrounded by mountains. I targeted and overlapped my nukes and bombardments and destroyed about 80% of his base in one attack. I then sent my Overlords,ChainTanks and Nuke tanks to clean up. On medium this was not a tough challenge but on hard I can see it being difficult if you don't get AA up right away. The 2nd of the nite(fourth overall) was the GLA assasin specialist. This guy was a pretty good challenge. He has camo netting on all buildings so you cannot see them unles syou have the proper equipment. He ended up dropping 2 Toxin Missle attacks on me before I could find the hidden launcher. He also had some stinger sites in some really odd places that I had to find. I got my first look at the CHinese Helix helo and that thing is bad ass. I was able to use it to find some targets and then have it take them out. This mission was time consuming because you have to find all the buildings and they are in some odd places. The worst part was that after I beat him the game crashed when it was exiting the battle screen. I did not ge tthe auto save so have to go in and fight him again. CK
Oh I plan on getting it sooner rather than later. Just since I'm stuck working part time until I can get another part time job money's REAL tight, especially since I just got all my bill notices the past day or two. Anyway, my friend loaded it up tonight and tried a skirmish with him (Air Force) against a brutal (China Tank) opponent. After fending off a few tank attacks he got the Chinese nuke with a combined carpet bombing/A-10 strike. After that it was just a matter of trying out the new stuff. The fire base is pretty good, and I love the MOAB and Spectre gunship attacks. I think that's who I'll be using a majority of the time. BTW I would like to extend an invite to everyone in the Houston area to visit my new place of (hopefully temporary, but it's still a pretty good gig) employment. I'm working as a doorman/bouncer at Brian O'Neill's. It's in Rice Village at 5555 Morningside and has good food, petter drinks, and live bands every weekend (Thursday-Saturday) starting at around 10. Cover's a dollar sometime after 9, and I'll be there Thursday-Saturday this week. Come on by, say hi, and look for me. I'm Jeremy, and I'll be in all black.

Bah I brought it up and she said, "I'm done with your birthday shopping, ask mom!" It's not a big deal it's only like $20 at Circuit City. And since it's tomorrow it's a bit late for suggestions. Thanks for the thought though . Hey it's not MY fault Reece kept insisiting I show him wrestling moves. He kept jumping on me and wanting me to "dump truck" (piledriver) him. He wore me out . I hope at least he slept well that night.
OK I picked it up and tried it out. First, the A.I. has definitely been ramped up. I did a skirmish against the Chinese infantry commander and it was just never ending waves of soldiers. We basically fought to a standstill until I had to quit to get ready for work. Anyway I've got a question for you Castor. My friend is going through the Challenge with the Air Force general and ran into the U.S. superweapons general, Alexis. He can't move off that one because she starts attacking with Comanches and an A-10 strike within about 3 minutes. If you've run into her, any pointers? I plan on starting the challenge tonight after work so this has a little importance for me too.
Oh I just saw your post. I started by creating some rocket infantry right from the start. Then I made sure to create several gattling AA ( I played the Chinese). After that I blasted the Ion cannon off the island. She was tough becaus eof those EMP SAM's you have to be very careful not to get too close with anything you value.
