Have any of you tried ordering camera equipment online? I'm currently looking for a new digi-cam...a Canon. The following link shows a list of places to order online. How do you know it's a good company and trustworthy to get the equipment in a timely manner with no problems? http://www.everyprice.com/cgi-bin/s...lectronics:Digital Cameras:Canon:Powershot-G2
i would suggest ordering from a reputable online company... a big name, not Joe Schmoe's Camera's... Outpost.com or Buy.com or just someplace you've heard about. What kind of cam do you want? I think, as long as you know what camera you want, find it and order it. You want timely? Order it 2 day shipping or something... get a tracking number... ordering a camera online is no different than ordering a CD except it's a few hundred dollars more. Check the company's return policy. Most cameras are securely packed, I wouldn't worry too much about it arriving damaged. If you are REALLY worried, just bite the bullet and buy it locally. here are some places to try: http://outpost.com/ http://shopper.cnet.com/ http://www.epinions.com/ http://www.buy.com/
I suggest checking out www.dpreview.com www.photographyreview.com and www.nextag.com When I made my decision, I ended up buying my camera from www.jandr.com, and I got my lenses and most of my other stuff from www.bhphotovideo.com and www.adorama.com
I'm looking at getting a Canon G2. I know they are up to G5 but I think this will fill my needs. I've noticed a big difference in prices online. I'm wondering if some of them keep the "extras" and make you pay for them separately?
One big issue with Canon equipment is that there are a lot of grey market items out there. You'll pay less, but your warranty will be provided by the seller and not by Canon. That's up to you if you want to take the risk. I chose not to, but that's just me. I shopped around for the best possible price from amongst the authorized canon dealers. The G2 is still a great camera, and you should be able to pick one up from an authorized dealer for around $450. I just got my wife an S400, and she loves it, but if I hadn't gone off the deep end and got myself a DSLR, I would have gotten a G series.
My brother is looking at the S400. Does your wife like hers? Do you know the best place to get a Canon G2 in Houston? I called Houston Camera Exchange and they said the are up to the G5 and almost sounded as if it was strange I asked about the G2. I saw a G3 at Best Buy but didn't want to drop $599.
Btw, the Canon website doesn't have a link to dealers (what's up with that?)...you have to call them. I did and they gave me Walmart and Best Buy.
You can get it at buydig.com for $402 or a set of stuff for $542 (includes camera, bag, 2 batteries, lens cleaner kit, 256MB card). They had good reviews on a few other websites.
I have a Canon A40. It takes some nice pictures but it has no battery meter... I have no idea how much juice I have left. When the batts are up I get a red flashing battery, that's it... no level indicators...
Yah....she loves her S400...though she thinks "it's too complicated"--which cracks me up because I specifically got it because it's a simple point and shoot. I don't really know about Houston dealers that much because I bought just about everything online. Less overhead, more competition and a lack of sales tax tends to make the prices much more attractive.
I bought my Nikon 4500 from bhphotovideo.com last year and they have a good reputation on the 'Net. There are places you'll find stuff cheaper, but a lot of times they're grey market material with no warranties. I've heard mixed reviews about buydig.com. The cheapest places usually have the worst customer service. When you call they'll try to sell you all kinds of stuff you don't need. When you tell them you don't want to buy any of the other stuff, the product you want will magically become out of stock or something. Some of them are also scams because you'll see different stores on the 'Net that are really the same store under different names.
Yeah.....what he said..... BH is probably the most reputable place on the web. I've spent a bundle with them over the past few years.....the latest a Canon EOS 10D. Never had any issues! You can also check this site out for reviews of different companies before you buy. http://www.photo.net/neighbor/one-subcategory?id=2 Good luck and happy shooting......
BH Photo was $50 buck more than Amazon. I just bit the bullet and ordered. Thanks for all the pointers, fellas. Now, where can I sell my Sony Cybershot (1.3)?
I bought my VX2000 and some other stuff from B&H Photo Video, too, so I would recommend them, as well. But with Amazon being cheaper, you obviously did just fine. I've certainly ordered plenty from Amazon over the years and never had a problem with them, either.
