As I look on sites like GODADDY etc. . . It seems like you RENT the names for a year or so . . . more than BUYING. Is this the Norm . . . is there a way to simply buy it forever. Rocket River
No. You can prepay for 10 years or so but you are really renting in that sense. On a side note, you can find some good disount coupons at places like Fat Wallet-- just BING "GoDaddy discounts"
Doesn't GoDaddy have this shady business practice where they simply buy up all the domain names you search up on their website? That way you are forced to rent it because they now own it.
Don't go through godaddy. You can register domain names at many places. Just be careful of some of the tricks out there. There might be specials where they offer 1 years worth of site service and a domain name for 10.00, then when the next year rolls around, they hit you full price for web hosting service on your credit card.
I use GoDaddy - never had a problem with them and you can usually find some online coupons. Not sure why others say don't use them.
Go to namecheap.com Best domain service by far. Renewals costs u $9.82 or so. Godaddy will make you pay $20+ for renewal. With Godaddy you are paying for their commercials by buying there.
Really? $20+ to renew with Godaddy?? How do you know this? I just went through a renewal and it was $9.28 for 1 year .COM. I am not trying to promote Godaddy or anything but if you are going to say they suck then at least provide a valid reason why.
Don't you get to renew it before it's released again after that year? As long as you don't forget you should be ok, I would guess anyway...
Have used go daddy a few times. each time the renewal was the same as the initial purchase of $10. Only problem I had was the first domain I bought I forgot to renew and it was bought before I could renew it and is now listed on their site for $250. Wasn't a big deal I just bought the .net name and have a renewal email sent to me about 3 weeks before it goes out.
Because they are a classless organization. When I say something like that, take heed. My business is a bit into detective-type stuff, as I'm always looking for someone who is successful selling something similar to what my company offers. When I see a "godaddy" site, I know they are unprofessional.
GoDaddy has automated renewals. You don't really even need to remember as long as you select to "auto renew". I think it may be set to auto-renew from the beginning. It used to be anyway. I have a couple of domains through them that auto-renew.
I agree with this. If I am buying Web Hosting with a domain, I'll just do it with my hosting site: www.1and1.com. It's on an auto-renew. You're not renting if it hasn't been invented or it's available. You buy it, but once you don't use it, don't be upset if someone buys it before you do.
You looking for hosting as well? I can hook you up depending if you're looking for Windows or Linux based servers. In terms of domains, I can get you one too but you'll be subject to most of the same crap out there. I have a reseller account with Tucows opensrs and Enom
