http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2000/0613/582537.html Just happened today. Its not much of a suprise anymore, as Gm Grunwald had little choice after Carter brought controversy after controversy to the team and created some internal tension between he and some of the vets. Its too bad, he was a good coach that was a big reason for the young team's success. Having McGreedy and The Human Highlight Reel 2K doesn't hurt either. I think Carter was good as gone the moment he sued Marcus Camby. ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
Everyone was saying they should fire him, but I have to say I'm surprised they did it. So McGrady, how does it feel to get a man fired? ------------------ http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Wait a second there- McGrady was not the reason Carter was fired. Young coaches who take a franchise to its best record and first ever playoff birth usually arent fired because a player who wont be coming back anyways doesnt like them. Carter's own dumb mistakes got his arse canned. IT was those off the court screwups that led to the overall dislike of him by the veterans, prompting McGrady's dissatisfaction with him also. Personally, I am still confused how Carter could have managed to mess up such a perfectly good situation. I mean, I think he is a pretty good coach also. Maybe the Nets will hire him. Jay, McGrady said he didn't want to come back because he wanted to play with vets Davis, Oakley, Christie and Brown. These vets were going to be traded because they didn't get along with Butch Carter. Now that Carter is canned, Davis and Oakley, at least, will likely stay and the Raptors chances of resigning McGrady -- who I think wants to stay anyway because of Carter -- go up tremendously. Don't you think Grunwald was thinking about this when he dropped the axe? I'm waiting to hear what Davis has to say about the firing and what it means for his own future. ------------------ http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
Of course McGrady got him fired. Here is a picture of what is going through the heads of the Toronto top brass. ---McGrady doesn't like Butch Carter and was upset about that little ploy he used Mcgrady in to try and get the general manager spot as well. We want to resign Tracy, but he probably will bolt if Butch is still here. Hmm... Let's think about this, no Butch Carter and a promise to resign Vince long term and chances of resigning McGrady skyrocket. Answer : Fire Butch!! Bingo.. --- There you have it. McGrady was the reason behind the canning of Butch Carter. ------------------ He who stands for nothing will fall for anything.

I will be surprised if Vince Carter doesn't play there for the next 10 seasons, at least. ------------------ http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
I agree Just saying it was out of McGrady's hands-not his fault they were going to fire the coach just cause he wouldnt stay. We are in agreement though ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
Now McGrady have no excuse to leave (although, I think he will find a new one). IMHO, McGrady use all these excuses (if Vince stays, if Oakley stays, if Davis stays) to prepare for his departure.
Most likely Tracy McGrady will still not be in a Raptors uniform next season. Certainly, McGrady soured on Carter cause teh Vets didn't like him, but as I mentioned in my post, the Vets didn't like him becuase he was an idiot and pulled off retarted moves like suing Marcus Camby then changing his mind--things that severly distracted the team when they needed to concetrate the most. The majority of the unraveling was Carter's alone. It isn't like McGrady was on a mission to get Carter fired. I would feel the same way if I was McGrady. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
Jay, we're essentially in agreement. I don't think McGrady was out to get him fired -- though I don't think he's unhappy about it either. But they weren't going to fire him for Oakley or Davis; if McGrady was aboard, Butch would have been too. ------------------ http://www.gaffordstudios.cjb.net/
